Leviasynth from ASM

I have no opinion one way of the other.

Yeah? Well you’re wrong.

January 2027. They’ll substitute digital filters for the analog ones, and have 4 octaves of mini keys.

Not sure there’s room in the lineup for an LS Deluxe.

ADDED : Six weeks later and more informed, a changing perspective more fully understanding what the LS is. There is room at the top.

I hope they do an explorer version, mini keys but with a mini price!

16 oscillators per voice and 26 envelopes?

There might be a good oppurtunity to do the explorer with 4-6 ops and two digital filters for a sub 800 price.

I got this weird email. I can’t make heads or tails of it:

Summary

ā€œThank you for using your ASM synth, it means more to us than you know! We continued to develop FM syntheis and soon to be developed sensor and laser technology has now allowed us to play the sun and other stars like oscillators. ASM no longer exists in the form you are familiar with but each and every one of your patches have hastened our galactic symphony. Thank you, Ancestor.ā€

It’s just an email from the future. Nothing to worry about.

I prefer sound design, but I actually separate the processes to be more productive

Why don’t you want the ability to create your own unique sounds?

I don’t care that people have this opinion, but the vast majority of synths are extremely similar and extremely limited and basic, even the modern ones

I feel like we should be encouraging this direction rather than discouraging it

I’m very excited for this one. The M and Sq-80 are some of my all time favorites but I don’t need more wavetable synthesis

I also love the Opsix, and this seems to have an almost more advanced (in certain ways) custom algo/algo morphing fm engine

AND the phase distortion aspect really intrigues me. That’s a ton of power

I’d choose complexity and power/versatility over limitations in a sound creation tool any time

If you want to make the same sounds as everyone else, you have plenty of options, pre bought presets, Juno 60 clones, subtractive synths, sample packs that someone else made

What’s the point? This isn’t a rompler

Anyway, not trying to pick fights, i just imagine it’s more productive to encourage innovation in synthesis. We have a new synth every week that doesn’t add anything new to the existing options. This is what companies should be doing

Id prefer to live in a timeline where we are pushing what hardware synthesizers are capable of in terms of both very complex unique sound design and musicality

I’m aware, but you said you’d rather have the iridium. Not the $4000+ quantum

Which i never liked the sound of anyway. I actually doubt this will have A very special timbre like the M or the Ensoniq hybrids, not sure what makes that happen aside from low bitrate, asic bugs, weird old DACS, but I’m not a huge fan of the ASM sound

The Opsix and other modern Korg digital raspberry pi stuff does have some kind of magic in their va and fm though. I don’t know why, but I like their digital tone

Oh man, I hope so. Maybe a paraphonic analog filter though? Not sure if that would make sense

Yeah I love this. I think envelopes are what I focus on most when patching a synth. Dynamic movement being a primary concern typically. I really don’t like the eg response of the hydra envelopes. They seem sluggish or tough to shape? Too linear maybe. But hopefully these are more malleable

Visual feedback for dynamic modulation is a nice touch

is it even beta firmware?

Looks like an FM beast, would very much like to have a play on one. I suspect it’ll be a bit pricey for me, but looks like a really interesting synth engine.

Big pass!* Two or three times as expensive as I was hoping for and they seem to have captured the same nasal insects as they had in the Hydrasynth engine**.

*Watch, I’ll have one in a couple of months.

**Watch, I’ll sell it, buy the desktop version, sell it and always wonder what I did wrong to make it sound so thin.

That’s your opinion.

I am not for it, I am not against it, quite the contrary.

I would not get the Quantum, since I think the digital filters sound good enough. I currently have the Protein and I’m very pleased with the filters on that.
What I’m looking for is a compact two machine dawless setup with the Tonverk plus an all-round capable synth. I thought the Leviasynth could be a contender for this but it turns out not to be the case.
However, I do applaud it for it’s new ideas in synth technology. It’s just that I question if the sounds it makes will be worth the learning curve. I wasn’t that impressed with the sounds in Loopop’s review. But I’m sure some people will create wonders with it.

I darent watch!

The morphing between algorithms is so cool. I’d never use 10% of the possibilities on offer here, but man I love the look it.
