Yeah I have to imagine there was some promised commitment from the original dev to fix bugs but I am also don’t think the Kyra is especially buggy from what I heard. I think the biggest thing is it probably didn’t sell well and even if waldorf did have full rights to the code they probably weren’t gonna go out and search or train someone on FPGA programming to work on it unless it was selling gang busters. I think it is easy to forget how tiny a company waldorf is at the end of the day, they really dont present themselves in that way, and they are makings stuff that feels to be at the forefront of synth tech.
I hope the make a proper Q series synth as there VA only replacement… only catch is it will have to be very yellow.
Yes, compared to Roland, which is a behemoth, Waldorf is a niche player. As a musician, it is generally safe to treat any musical hardware product without hoping for any updates and to learn to cope with its limits, or to just move on.
Luckily, the recent Waldorf desktop form factor does not appeal to me at all. Kyra has always fascinated me as a product.
Seems that the last remaining units are currently available at a much lower price (1099€), including rackmount
Gonna have to sleep on and regret this like i did with Toraiz sp-16. Then, like with DT2, something else will come along and I’ll be happy again
just got a newsletter from Waldorf, now it’s official:
Product discontinuation
Kyra and Kyra SE
We regret to inform you that the Kyra and Kyra SE synthesizers have reached their end of life and will be discontinued. There won’t be a new production run anymore. But you can still get devices from our dealers worldwide as long as the stock lasts.
I still want this =/
