I did a quick search here but couldn’t find any listing/Info.
There’s some serious knowledge behind those mixers, I’d love to try/hear one in person.
Edit: Hmm these seem to be geared more toward live sound than recording…
Is anyone using one of these in their setups? The 8 stereo channels on the 2408 are a bit unusual on a mixer of this format. Bit surprised not seeing them get more mention around synth based setups.
They’re on my radar. The feature set looks great for most of my needs. The layout looks nice and clean too. I imagine I’d enjoy using it. Not tested one though.
It’s worth noting that it doesn’t have dedicated aux returns. You’d have to use normal channels - and probably explains the higher-than-usual stereo channel count. The group outs seem to be stereo which would let you do submix stem recording, might be a nice workflow for some people.
That said, my needs aren’t really needs. I borrowed a friend’s mixer with 5-mono and 5-stereo channels, plugged in a few more bits of gear and freaked out with option paralysis. I’ve gone back to just using my Octatrack
. It may be some time before I look to testing one of these.
really tempted by so many of these features (8 stereo ins!) but still boggled that they didn’t make the USB a multitrack output. is there any prospect (three+ years later) that this functionality could be added in a firmware update? unlikely i suspect but would buy in a heartbeat if it were forthcoming
No idea, but I highly doubt it. It’s a shame because it would have really broadened the appeal of these mixers to be able to send a few more tracks to a DAW.
They still tempt me from time to time when they’re on sale, and they’re probably good matched with an 8 input audio interface, but yeah, hopefully a mk2 will come along.
Every now and then I have a quick browse of YouTube to see if there’s any new reviews or demos for this mixer.
This one gives a pretty good overview of using the subgroups to feed an audio interface.
@Stone262 – I see from the patchbay thread that you now have one of these in hand. Any thoughts on the MW-2408 you can share?
Not many thoughts yet, I’ve had it for a while but other than a quick test when it arrived it has been sitting waiting to be setup.
I don’t have much to compare it to either, I was using a Samson SM10 rack mixer previously, and haven’t spent much time at all with this format of mixer. The SM10 was great, but I found some aspects a bit fiddly just because of the size and front panel colour.
I probably would have been technically better off with a digital mixer, but I don’t think I would have gotten on very well with the one set of channel controls that most of them have. I’m hoping this will give a much better visual indication of how everything is routed and setup.
Something about this one speaks to me though, even though it didn’t have all the routing possibilities I would hope for, I just really wanted it. I think I just like it when companies do something a bit out of the ordinary, and those 8 stereo channels plus 4 stereo subgroups is an odd combination.
So yeah, I’m excited by the possibilities, ok with the limitations, and hoping it gives me some nice, clean, low noise and low niggles fun.
I have been using it as well.
It’s mostly suited for some small to medium sized band touring.
It’s quite simple and straightforward in it’s design - no inserts, no returns, no direct outs etc.
You won’t find much use for the digital part in the studio, it’s mostly for live monitoring purposes.
The knobx and faders are a bit too crowded and visually not as easy on eyes as on other mixers. Interestingly, all knobs have unity at 12 o’clock and the knobs have indent in there.
It’s fine as master summing / returns mixer with groups for either stems multi-tracking and / or FX inserts.
Anyways, in the studio, you probably want to use it with interface behind the group out chains and possibly even with additional mixer before it for additional sound-shaping and submixing. The EQs on Korg are quite limited compared to the 4 bands with 2 PEQs availible on older analogue mixers.
I’m in need of a first mixer to fit into lil’ meager (DT2+ND3p+Peak+midi keys+a mic) dawless setup… So far the Korg 1608 seems the best fit to pick…
I’ve got some weeks to think + research, and check any reason why I, like… shouldn’t go with 1608… Sound-shaping/eq seems to me the biggest bad thing.
Build quality though, which is also a Thing for me… Very good, and even perhaps built in Japan…?
I can get away with no send+returns by only needing 4 stereos for my current setup… and using some of the channels can be used to fit compression and other effects? … and still have 2 channels left for maybe getting that A4m2 or ar Pitsburgh Modular that I fancy… and then a sequencer but that’s all I crave for this.
Also was reading the manual, it is extremely good, for a newbie, in my opinion. Good theory + tips + relaxed atmosphere there.
I don’t think the lovely Jellymix does enough…don’t like the Behringer vibe (there was one in flea market for a tenner, but the plastic vibe threw me off)… Yamaha’s pro mixers are hjuuuge and heavy (…Yamaha MGP24X = 15kg), and their new mixers too simple… Mackie 1604 VLZ4 is a good contender, especially for price … but …
Also to allow more effects… might as well go with the Korg’s 2408 ![]()
