That’s a clever solution, but I agree it probably wouldn’t work out in practice.
I like the sounds it makes now, lol … curious to see what oscs get made for it.

OK, finally got the mK2 in the mail. Happy, happy, happy! The first thing to try after update to the latest OS (2.0.1 as of now) was the looper. Using a good ol’ Akai samplers’ trick, prepared 16 bars of the drum loop in 80 bpm, sped it up 4 times and pitched it up 24 semitones. Then uploaded it to the mK2, in the looper’ PLAY settings put TEMPO SCALE to -100%, and changed the global tempo to 40 bpm. Now I have perfect 16 bars of a little degraded (a.k.a LoFi) drum loop, and continue to overdub everything over it. Yes!! Works amazingly for me!

I found that you can create pretty tasty FM tones by utilizing VPM modulation using OSC3. Now you can set fixed ratios if you want percussive, atonal or highly metallic tones. And because it’s bi-timbral you can layer quite complex FM-like pads and such… What an interesting little synth.

One of the keys on my MK2 randomly died. Of course it’s just over a year since I bought it, so warranty expired.
I bought it at an actual shop in my area, so I’ll see if I can get it repaired. It’s too new not to try to get it fixed.
I had the original MK for many years and it was a tank. This keyboard died with only light use after like 14 months. The only time I’ve had a keyboard die on me is my Arturia Keystep, but I used the hell out of that and it was cheap. Super bummed. Probably won’t be buying modern Korg again.

If you have compressed air or a strong fan, you might try aiming it at the problem area. A single bad key sounds like a contact issue - dust or debris from manufacturing may have slipped in.
If that doesn’t do it, I’m hopeful that a tech can quickly and cheaply solve your problem if you aren’t interested in diving in with a screwdriver yourself.

You’re the man! I almost gave up because it wasn’t doing anything but after about three rounds of compressed air and a bunch of wiggling it’s working again.
So glad I don’t have to go through the annoyance of a repair. I assumed the contact must have failed. Phew.
I guess Korg deserves another chance. I was going to go all in on Roland.

I see that the sinevibes effects have been ported to the microkorg 2 - this has me very interested all of a sudden as an effects processor for other gear. Had been using the NTS-1 but it’s given up the ghost, so recent posts regarding quality issues notwithstanding, does anything think it’s a feasible use case?

Technically it would work, but form factor wise, it wouldn’t be my first choice for an effects processor as something like the SP-404mkii is better suited IMHO.
That said, even the standard effects are actually pretty decent sounding, and you can process stuff through the vocal processor as well.
(Side note, I think maybe one reason I’ve bonded with this synth more than other people is that while synthesis has never been my strong suit, sound design with effects is something I am very comfortable with and the MKII has a lot of effects shaping options).

Yeah, I’ve never had a synth before that has things like amp sims and reverse delay. My only complaint is that I wish that I could use more than three effects (and wish I could route the looper back through the effects)
Also, for some reason I find the layout incredibly intuitive, which is definitely not how I felt about the first MicroKorg. Usually I only bond with dead simple synths like the Moog Grandmother or Volca Keys, but this is one that even I can wrap my head around. The mod matrix in particular is super easy to use. I’m probably only scratching the surface for what a true synth guru could do, but even non gurus can get good sounds out of this one.

Same here.
For me, part of what makes the UI flow is the color screen, which I hadn’t expected would matter. The knobs and what’s onscreen all feel very obvious and connected.

As it touches on two things. First, is tracker playback possible on the MK2. Yes, but with a catch… The envelope kicks in. This prevents continued playback. After discussing in the community discord i realized there were other issues we forgot to record.
So, for anyone who has a device, any of the logue SDK devices, please report issues related to annoyances or improvements too.

The NTS3 is a cheaper alternative if only about effects, and still quite capable. It is very portable. Otherwise the KaossDJ is a cheaper option that is still portable, but it is better to understand what you want. As I think a combination device makes more sense; mpc sample, sp404, etc. If adding effects to an audio stream, even the Tracks can do this.
