Korg Gadget 3

Has anyone used Korg Gadget on the Nintendo Switch? If so, what are some of your thoughts?

The concept is really cool, but the execution is a little janky and the sounds are really quite rubbish. I am firmly of the opinion that most things can be made to sound good if you put in the work but Korg Gadget really makes you work for it. The switch interface doesn’t help. Fun to muck around with on a flight when I remember I have it installed but that’s it. Regrettably expensive purchase.

Makes sense and thank you. Honestly, the iOS app got me back in to synths back in 2015 or 16. So I have a fondness that probably doesn’t make much sense given the gear I have now.

Is Gadget on Switch sounding worse than on iOS or is it because interface? Because I like the sounds I get from it on iPad and find it quite easy to get to them.

Huh.
I like Korg and I have a PlayStation.
Granted, could just be playing on the actual synths I have instead.

Cool, wish it worked with PSVR2! That’s pretty much the story of PSVR2 though.

Right!
It’s already in VR on Meta. I know there’s not just some ā€œport to PSVR2 buttonā€ but dang. So close.

That’s neat. I’d say for most of us this is sort of ā€œuselessā€ (not sure how many have a PS5 where there synths are but I’m basing that entirely on my own set up)

Where this is cool is that hopefully this is an inexpensive way to get a younger audience into music production. I know the Korg DS game back in the day did that for me.

Gadget on Switch is what got me back into making music.

What I don’t understand is how you can play notes in live on a PS5? Gadget works well on iPad and switch because both have touch screens, but on PS5 I’m assuming you’ll have to program your notes in.

usb mouse / keyboard / music keyboard?..joypad accelerometer ?(angle or twist it for low / high notes). , maybe bluetooth ?

Not sure I want to pay £40 to find out

Chat says you can use midi controllers with the ps5 port but what does it know. I find it odd Korg wouldn’t mention it at all. I can understand why Sony wouldn’t mention if ps5 was built with from the console midi in mind because then they’d be open to compatibility support.

Ultimately I think Korg is onto something heading into the huge gaming space mining for new users.

In the future I’d love to score my own games from the console. For example, export track to X mission, play Y track when entering X area etc.

i wondered if it was a way to pay for learning unreal 5… produce a product that might make some revenue… its also a nice multiplatform dev environment for switch 2, xbox etc with zero piracy… and i guess theres the opening up of the gamer market… its not a new idea ps1/nintendeo ds/c64/amiga/st etc

using music in other games from a usb stick has been done for decades depending on system / game.

personally - if i’m not using it on mac/pc , then ios would be the next one… as the files/aum/broader use case with many plugins etc is better system wise… all the ps5 will do is export the audio …theres no plugin / other system to integrate with.

Seems like an odd choice of a target platform, but Gadget is neat and I’m happy they’re keeping it alive.

On iPad you can export MIDI files to your Dropbox. Excellent for sketching out riffs/chords/beats/basslines on the go and then arranging on your hardware setup at home later.

The Nintendo version only exports audio, IIRC.
