The year is irrelavent. Its worth buying if having it will make you happy. If it will bring you satisfaction playing it. Fuck trends. Make tunes. Use what ever gear you like.
i rather disagree.
used gear prices went crazy for last couple of years, and i bet they have not stopped.
so a „worth buying?“ question is not only about happiness, but about investment as well.
I always make the mistake of assuming we can have a good faith discussion without misrepresenting each other’s words. There’s a kind of mutual common understanding and respect that’s isn’t always present with these types of replies.
It’s relevant because of the other options that exist, and yes also financially. Not because of trends obviously, or else I wouldn’t have asked the question. The point is, is it worth it compared to the gear that has been created since the time this dated instrument was made? Are the current “vintage” prices on the used market worth it for something that isn’t as powerful as the digitone, which I already have. Technology has advanced, things have changed. It’s a valid question
Regarding used gear prices, I think something has to be done about Reverb.com’s seller fees. The only way you can sell there without losing a huge amount of money is by raising the price way past its actual value, which artificially drives up the price of every instrument, not only on reverb, because other people will reference those prices as well. I sold a pedal that I bought not even 120 days ago for $400 for something like $320 because the ones selling for $350 were not being bought. The payout, after the shipping cost I added to the sale was under $300. If you sell something that’s a couple hundred dollars, you’re losing almost $80 in reverb fees and then another $30 in “processing fees”, so you have to try and charge the difference in the selling price, which makes it seem like that’s what they are worth.
We should all decide to collectively switch to some other platform or something because this is ridiculous. Didn’t Behringer just start one? I’d rather go there if it had the same traffic and features that reverb has
The problem wasn’t with the stock tubes so much as the designs which never supplied them with enough voltage.
Last i checked the site was down, but maybe they’re trying again. They didn’t really pour a lot of effort in.
Sure thing dude, I wasnt being a smart arse. Just saying ‘worth’ is more than just a price tag.
I’ve no comment on Reverb since I dont live i USA so I dont use it.
If you want an EMX1 get one, search for the good price and you’ll find it.
Good luck on your quest.
I really love my EMX-1. I managed to find one for $350 CAD a few years ago.
On the topic of sound… I really like the way it sounds. I mainly use mine for ambient downtempo stuff.
I enjoy how digital it can be and the modulate delay it has sounds really nice to me.
I generally avoid the built in reverb as it sounds like distorted air. Lol
