Not EMX but still electribe. And bangin.
Seriously, fuck that guy. Anyone who plays drum n bass and doesnāt respect black culture is a shit, no matter how good they may be at pushing buttons.
āI know the guy is a racist but his music is cool and anyway heās not racist against my peopleā is literally describing the racist recruitment path in action.
Not sure anybody here was ignoring the racism btw.
People said they didnāt care that the dude is racist.
Thereās a lot of artists Iām conflicted about. Thatās just life. You canāt know about everything and you canāt boycott every little thing. But you have to care.
EMX-1 experts - when playing a live set with these things, how do you approach transitioning between patterns?
Programme a transition.
- Use the octatrack.
I did the first 2 tracks on this EP using the EMX, TR09 plus OT. Recorded live one take.
This is the video that got me to buy an ES-1. So good!
Then I bought the ER-1 and my fate is sealed, going for EMX and ESX next
Me too, actually.
Peg the delay!
Going into more depth here⦠what do yo mean by transitioning between patterns? Patterns in the same song, or very different patterns that are each their own songs?
I usually make my songs out of many similar patterns. I edit and Save As new patterns over and over and then listen through and try to decide which one is the hook, chorus, etc.
But if youāre just doing single patterns as songs, sometimes it helps to take 2 patterns you know youāre going to play one after the other and then try to create a transitional pattern that borrows an element or two from each.
Also since the 'tribes donāt auto-save the way that Elektron boxes do, you can use that behavior during a performance to create transitions and reprises. You can also use the ācompare to saved stateā function to do this IIRC. They leet you pop back to the save-state of the pattern (which could be a chorus, for instance).
Snow Metal/sauce has some very useful tutorials on how to set up templates to do this really easily, which you can use as starting points for new patterns. Itās a pretty powerful tool. Hereās one; first one I could find but I think itās a relevant one:
Yeah Iāve always wished you could turn the auto save off on the Octatrack, and digitone. (The two elektrons I own)
Itās optional on the TR8-S too, which is brilliant.
Hello everyone, anybody got a shot esx/emx theyād be willing to sell me the arp fader/knob off of???
I know I can get the one with no center detent for cheap but I want the og part
Yeah I know. No centre detent. But for 10 bucks⦠do you need a centre? Canāt say I ever really use the fader at all my self, I use the ribbon all the time. I have it set so the ribbon plays the range of notes and the fader sets gate length. (Which edit in step edit anyway)
Probably not the reply you were looking for.
Pppffff complete bollocks.
Sequencers are sequencers. You can make bangers on anything.

Shameless plug for my new EP, made on EMX1
Starsky Carr just put out a nice video
I think the tubes in my 2nd-hand ESX1 sound way better than my EMX1, which leads me to suspect that theyāve been swapped out. I can push the ESX1, but push the EMX1 and it sounds horrible. So - what tubes do we recommend?
@Purusha You-Tubes
, ok awful pun.
This vid show you how to swap and there is a link to the tubes he usedā¦
when I had an EMX-1 I did change my tubes to some Sovtek ones⦠it made a subtle difference to the sound, but not as much as people were suggesting really⦠I wonder if thereās a bit of psychacoustic wishful thinking going on with this stuff sometimesā¦
Great machine though - just gets increasingly hard to wring anything really new out of it after a while as itās ultimately kinda limited. I replaced with a Monomachine MKII & never looked backā¦
(now, why the hell did I sell that ?!
