Knives - Collectors

Anyone else into pocket knives? I really only just started getting into it a bit more after I thought I lost one of my favorites only to discover it was discontinued when I tried to repurchase. Luckily I’m a dummy and found it again, but I’ve discovered a new GAS for pocket knives. I have 3 Ken Onion Kershaws, my favorite being the Shallot which is the discontinued one. Been eyeing some Benchmade models, but wondered if anyone else here is into them.

Edit: Changed the title to hopefully be less controversial

There’s this Opinel No.5 (a small one) that I carry in my pocket for 30 years now. That’s half of my life. It is made of grey steel and I have used it a lot.

I love Opinels! Those and Morakniv are probably my favorite low cost knives.

i too had to replace a long lost piece, this one (not my pic) is the non-auto version of the exact same knife in Blade, the scene where his mom cuts the ropes off his wrists. it’s a very small, thin and light gentlemanly kind of weapon. def a shocker to see what some of these are worth now. Benchmade, Emerson, Onion, Pardue, Kershaw (designer collabs) all top shelf stuff.

I had one of these

I walked into a police station with it inside my backpack. Cop made me surrender it or store it somewhere else before walking in. I surrendered it. Cop was like, “are you sure? It’s a nice knife…” and I’m like, “well, I walked here. I either give it to a “responsible” person, or leave it out and hope no murderer finds it and does the thing you are trying to prevent…” Cop just glared…

Here in the UK, knives are frowned upon unless you’re a roadman.

What are these for? Camping?

Where I’m from only people that have knives are people who want to stab you lol

I think most people just use them to open boxes  perfect for the modern jungle… picknickers and fisherman. I dunno I have been sharpening knifes professionally for about 5 or so years not really into knives but a customer gifted me a nice customized swissarmy knife and I just use it in the kitchen.

I live pretty close to Benchmades HQ.

Well, Portlands got tons of knife companies around here including Leatherman, CRKT, Benchmade, and Kershaw.

I’ve got a leatherman multi tool that I usually have on me.

+1 for Leatherman. It’s my everyday carry. I mostly use the pliers and screwdriver, but the saw and knife come in handy when camping. Oh, and the bottle opener gets a little bit of use as well

The Milwaukee one with the bit holder is my favorite multitool ever! (For now)

Yes! I have an Opinel No. 5 that I bought on a trip to France. What a classic. I also have a Morakniv I use for bushcraft and camping things. Great knives at affordable prices.

The main thing I need to do, is not buy more knives, but learn how to sharpen the ones I have better. I have some sharpening stones but tend to be pretty lazy about it. My kitchen knives could use some sharpening for sure!

I have this one since 1996:

Mine was made before they put that Phillips screwdriver underneath. Gift from my father.

Yes! There are too many knives in the wrong hands!

I know this is in the general discussion category, but it feels a bit too off topic for the forum to me. The whole subject makes me feel a bit uneasy, due to the number of kids in UK cities carrying knives to be hard, then stabbing each other for no reason. But I can mute the thread I guess.

Besides, using a knife to open a box sounds lame. Don’t you have guns for that kind of thing.

Hiking, yes. In Sweden we not only make great sequencers, but also really good knives. High quality steel is a centuries old tradition, and today one of the best knife brands is Mora.

I have a bunch of cheap folding knives of which some may only be good for opening boxes, and one or two are probably only good for fighting, but I would never know because I don’t carry them, I just keep them in a box at home.

Anyway, the real good ones are the Mora knives. One of my two favorites is the Mora Bushcraft carbon steel, really easy to keep sharp and good for most purposes on the hiking trail. You just have to keep the blade dry, or it will rust. The other one is the Mora Garberg, a full tang knife with a stainless steel blade. The full tang and the steel quality means you can use it for splitting wood for firewood.

Speaking of firewood, my third favorite is also a Mora, the small Eldris with a blade only a couple of inches. Its sole purpose is to cut splinters for fires. It sits on top of my mantlepiece.

All three Mora knives have the ”scandigrind” edge, ideal for wood.

Aren’t Fällkniven also top swedish knives?
