that’s one way to do it, and it’s certainly easy.
my way is more involved, but much more fluid and fun in a live setting – it also doesn’t sacrifice a pattern!

set up a performance of mutes for your current and next track.
activate it then press performance again.
now it’s locked. you can then switch your pattern.
after you switch, the performance mutes will carry over as long as you copied that performance setting. i always have CB12 (ie. top right pad) set as a transition.
now, you can go and either press the performance pad to bring it all back in, or go to the mute page and mute whatever you want and then hit that performance button again. of course, this can be done before you switch patterns as well (the muting, that is).

it’s much more expressive this way and saves a pattern

i’m guessing you can do this with scenes as well if you wanted.

Also, if let’s say you wanted to mute the clap on pattern one, you can set perf 1 to do that, but if you wanted to change perf 1 of pattern two, it could be different. i do this and it works our nice depending how you want the song to evolve!
