Is there a way the way to have certain pads muted when I switch to a new kit?
Unfortunately not. My work-around is to duplicate a pattern and kit, and have the tracks (that I want muted) in that duplicated pattern/kit be saved with the volume levels turned all the way down.
that’s one way to do it, and it’s certainly easy.
my way is more involved, but much more fluid and fun in a live setting – it also doesn’t sacrifice a pattern!
set up a performance of mutes for your current and next track.
activate it then press performance again.
now it’s locked. you can then switch your pattern.
after you switch, the performance mutes will carry over as long as you copied that performance setting. i always have CB12 (ie. top right pad) set as a transition.
now, you can go and either press the performance pad to bring it all back in, or go to the mute page and mute whatever you want and then hit that performance button again. of course, this can be done before you switch patterns as well (the muting, that is).
it’s much more expressive this way and saves a pattern
i’m guessing you can do this with scenes as well if you wanted.
Also, if let’s say you wanted to mute the clap on pattern one, you can set perf 1 to do that, but if you wanted to change perf 1 of pattern two, it could be different. i do this and it works our nice depending how you want the song to evolve!
^^cool technique.
I personally utilize scenes for muting track sections.
Wait, you can lock actual track mutes to a performance or scene? Or are you saying you’re setting the volume to zero and calling that a mute? I’m confused here.
Thanks

i’m guessing is the volume that goes down to 0 … i believe there’s no way of lock the mutes to the performance macros or the scenes, unless i always assumed it wasn’t possible and didn’t bother to check the manual, but in fact it is

Is this mute carry over thing still happening for everyone else? It does for me.
I copy/pasted one kit to next pattern. Then I renamed kit and would like mutes to NOT carry over. I will do volume workaround but this seems a strange “feature”…
Thanks for any thoughts. Sam

Yes this is 5 years later:) just bumpin in case there are rytm experts out there.
The way I usually do this is via the MUTE TRIGs. So if there is stuff I want to be always muted at the start of switching to the next pattn. I just add MUTE TRIGs to the steps and save the pattn, then when I have switched to that pattn, I remove the MUTE TRIGs. I can then re-save the pattn on the fly if I need to pull off some pattn reloading tricks later or whatever.
However, usually I just do this by knowing my pattns & tracks, and muting the voices I want start muted before I switch the pattn.
