Kinda want to sell my Virus and buy a M

I kind of want to complete the quadrinty and get a monomachine. Maybe I just wish my Virus had a sequencer and wasn’t such a beast to program.

I’m in the same boat. I currently have my virus ti2 for sale and plan to use the money to buy an mnm or whatever they announce tomorrow, if it intrigues me. There is nothing wrong with this idea. The virus is a great synth and I wanted one for years. That said, once I got one, I realized I didn’t really need it and much prefer my elektrons. As a matter of fact, I’m currently selling everything I have other than my elektrons, op1, and other small units that I use live. I’m even considering selling my arp odyssey because I don’t use it that much.

Keep and own the things that are useful to you. Sell everything else in order to obtain them.

I agree! Curious, can the MnM play polyphonically?

Yeah, but it’s 6 voices or nothing.
Unfortunately you can’t choose, say, 3 voices polyphonically and then use the rest for sequences or something similar.
You have to use all 6 for one sound.

adonis - interesting that you’re considering this, i actually thought of your current setup more than a few times last spring as i was working on trading my snow. i let go of it after months of similar frustration with trying to program & sequence it. i always wondered if i should have just bitten the bullet and gotten a desktop virus like yours, which would have left me the same sequencing hassles but at least would have offered a more hands-on knobby interface rather than driving me to tweak it via computer.

anyway, i traded it for a mnm and i’m much happier. but not cos i liked the mono better initially … it sounds very different from the virus (which i stuck with a long time just cos it sounded so effing fantastic), and i can’t say it’s anywhere nearly as effortless to get the mnm’s oscillators and effects working together in immediately pleasing ways. but you’re used to elektron so i wouldn’t sweat all that too much, especially as there’s a wealth of illustrative sysex that just came available for the mnm in the past few months.

mine is currently inspiring me on a daily basis. if you’ve listened to lots of mnm recordings and your ears say yes, go for it.

Count me in as well. This was my dream setup I was putting together last year:

TI Polar (Always wanted one as well)
Octatrak
Strymon Timeline
MPC 4000 to sequence ( bit now I am thinking about the Cirklon)
NI Kontakt plus tons of other stuff

I have all the above but was thinking about the soft synth route to replace the Virus. I never looked into the MnM ( will have to check that out)

I will say though that the knobs make a HUGH difference in flexibility and ease of use. and it does sound AMAZING and is a BEAUTY to look at !
I am still on the fence. Another reason is other projects have consumed my time so I can’t tell you the last time I produced anything or had a jam session.

Sorry to bump up an old post but I’m thinking of going the other way and trading the MNM for a Virus TI. I just havent clicked with the MNM the way I did with the OT/MD. I’m based in the UK if anyone is still interested in a swap.
