Okay, i’ve been puzzling a while with my current setup and can’t find a solution for what i want.
Maybe you can help advise.
I’ve got a Keystep37 which i’m using (only) to input notedata.
Its connected to DT Ín which is connected to my DN In. This way i can use the KS to input notes on both the sequencer of DT and DN. This works great. And this way i can also use DT to mute audio channels T1-T4 on DN while performing.
(Both the SyncB outs on DT and DN are used to send out DinSync24 to control my vintage Roland machines. This also works flawlessly)
KS->DT Sync A-> DN
DT setup: Tracks 1-8 all Midi off. When i want to input notes in the DT seqeuncer i just manually select the track on the DT to keep things easy.
Tracks 9-12 (controlling DN T1-T4) are using Midi channels 1 -4.
DN setup:
T1-T4 are recieving Midi data on channel 1-4.
So far this works like a charm.
Now for the part i can’t figure out:
I’ve hooked up an OT MK2. The Midi Out of DN is connected to my OT MK2. Sync works fine, but i can’t seem to get Midi data from KS to go through DT and DN to arrive at OT so that i can record incoming (KS) midi data in the OT sequencer to control and external synth.
Ideally i would be able to use KS to input data on all 3 sequencers (DT/DN/OT) without any problems/conflicts.
KS -> DT -> DN -> OT -> Ext Synth (example: BS2)
My guess is that i have to somehow make OT Audio tracks 1-8 not to respond to incoming Midi data and make sure that OT recieves KS midi data going through DT and DN to control de desired Midi channel (to use for controlling an external synth).
Of course i would prefer to use the OT sequencer to use to control the external synth, but i that’s very hard or impossible maybe using T13-16 on DT for this matter is an alternative. But still i would have to find out a way to setup OT right.
Please help/advise. Thanx in advance.
Consider a USB MIDI hub (Blokas is on sale right now I think, MIO XM is good as well).
It makes such thing way more easy.
I might be wrong, but try to use your midi through from your digitone to your octatrack. If you use your midi out of your digitone all the data you send from the digitakt stops at your digitone. The mdi through copies everything your digitakt is sending. So if it works on your digitone it should work for your octatrack as well
I thought it would be nice to at least inform you that i’ve got a solution working for some time now.
I bought a MIDI cable splitter (1 Out to 2 IN) and connected the Out of the Keystep on one side to my Octatrack and the other side to my DT/DN/A4 and i must say this works great.
The Midi signal is going on one side through the DT->DN->A4 and makes it possible to play channels 1-8 (DN 1-4/A4 5-8) from the keystep. But also channels 9-16 (not using channel 10!) from the OT by the keystep.
This way the keystep is master and controller for all devices.
If anybody ever needs some help advice…i also took notes of all the internal settings needed to make this work as well.
Thanx again for all your time and advice.
