Keyboard merging MIDI clock for A4?

Hi,

I’m thinking of using a MIDI keyboard with my A4 (one octave doesn’t cut it for me), but since I normally have Octatrack or Cirklon as clock master, I may have to merge incoming clock with note data.

Any thoughts on a good setup for that?

Thanks!

It might depend on the rest of your set-up, but you could put any keyboard into one input of the Cirklon and have the Cirklon’s very nice MIDI port configuration capabilities route the MIDI data anywhere in your system.

Sure, but unfortunately that doesn’t help when OT is master.

“OT is master” as in the Cirklon is not connected? Like I said, it depends on the set-up.

I think some keyboards are able to merge inputs; let me check.

Update: I believe that the Novation Remote keyboards will pass through any incoming MIDI signal, merged with whatever signals the keyboard creates. I assume that other brands of keyboard can do this too.

Kenton has a midi merger that deals well with clock. Everything else I tried sucks at that.

Yeah - I was thinking Kenton MIDI merge. I use their thru/splitter boxes.

Yeah - not using Cirklon.

Different projects use different hardware.

im running into the same issue. i need to be able to send start/stop to everything and run a keyboard into A4. seems like a midi merger is the answer - basically merging the clock and the notes

I use a dumb merger (old midiman 3x8) taking sync from innerclock, and notes from an sy99 synth, to the octatrack, and out from there to A4 and rytm on the autochannels. works fine here.
