Keyboard is triggering transport and other midi commands

My Juno is connected to my Octatrack MIDI IN (via a Kenton MIDI Merge). It’s also connected to the MIDI out, via a Kenton MIDI THRU. When I play keys on the MIDI track on the OCtatrack it sounds fine, but if I press certain keys on the Octatrack it’s starting and stopping the Octatrack TRANSPORT controls! Also, random midi notes seem to be playing on the Juno even if the midi channel is deselected and even if the MIDI channel is muted! What’s happening? Must be a MIDI configuration setting confusion issue?

Edit 1: Sometimes the notes on the Juno are playing extra loud and causing feedback. I have no idea what is happening here lol.

All I see. I need to go read about PROJECT > MIDI > CHANNELS setup then! Thank you. I didn’t even know where to start looking.

Actually I’m not sure if it’s possible to entirely disable the midi note transport control. Never tried and afaik you can send them on any channel.

You can block incoming notes and cc for the audio tracks (Project -> Midi -> Control: uncheck ‘Audio Note In’ and ‘Audio CC In’), but not sure about transport…
I guess the same result can be achieved by setting all audio channels to off (+audio tracks won’t send notes and cc). Audio Note In/Out and Audio CC In/Out allow for a more precise setup (e.g. let audio tracks send but not receive).

Someone else probaply knows better^^

Thanks. The extra loud overloading notes were totally my mistake. I left GRID RECORD TRIGS on the sequencer and after reloading my project, the record buffers reset and started recording again, all at different trig times and then overlapping on multiple channels. Oops.

There is (sorrily) no way to disable any of these midi note mappings. As soon as the OT is configured to receive midi these mappings are also active.

I just stumbled across this. I am -2 down on my Analog Keys and it triggers the OT.

B note triggers and retriggers the current pattern. B-flat stops / starts it. and then C going up chromatically walks through the 8 sampler tracks.

This is hardwired to the OT?

Since the earlier posts in this topic, Elektron issued OS version 1.40 for the OT (valid for both MkI and MkII), in which they provide new note mappings, some of which disable this control of transport, track selection, and other functions. See, for example, CHROMATIC NOTE MAPPING, described in Appendix C of the updated manual.

Ah Yes!!! I see this now! There is so much clever control! I love this machine! I’m sure there are many unorthodox ways to utilize these features. Thanks Peter
