Hello dear Elektronauts, i m wondering if it s possibile to connect an A4 trough the Usb B port with an Akai APC KEY25.
This is a toy keyboard i know i have already done before with an other 49 keyboard trough the MIDI input connection, but at the time the input MIDI port of the A4 is used to receive MIDI imput from Rytm as i use now them togheter.
The rytm is the Master and A4 is the slave i not want to Change this kind of settings… So actually the MIDI port are setted like this :
I have this idea but i m not sure if is possibile due to compatibility between Power routing issue, the usb connection on the Back panel of the A4 have a female USB B connection… And i have the same on the AKAI keyboard…
Is this working for that? The keyboard have to be powered trough this i m not sure the A4 is sending Power trough this connection…
I can maybe connect the keybor to a pc and routing the midi from pc to the a4 but it will be a lot of latency i swear… Can anyone give me a suggestion?
No. I don’t know why that cable exists. It should never be used.
The idea of USB B is that it indicates a peripheral device — that is, a device that needs a host to work. Plugging two peripheral devices into one another won’t do anything.
Tnx mate… This what i was thinking to… I have just seen this cable and i can t figure how it can works… But i m not that much expert to can say if my suggestion is right or not… Now you give me a proper answer… Tnx again i will try routing trough Overbridge or Ableton… This must work or? Maybe i will check for some latency control Software… I m not more Update… In the year i have used dpc latency if i remember well… You can maybe suggest me also some proper Software to check and monitoring the latency?
Actually i use Ableton only as an arrangment Software, i just use it slaved to Elektron too… Master tempo and midi are coming from Elektron…
I not care that much of ableton right now… As i say is just much practical as an arrangment way to do track but i not use as sound engine so to say… I will look later how to menage this things of sending midi notes into a4… Maybe o have to disconnect the rytm from ableton leave it always as master between the rytm and a4… And just connect the a4 to ableton and send midi noto to a4 from ableton and the akai… Is this wicked or make sense?
Tnx again for your kind help… I have setted right now… It work quite good… I have just some little issue with sync time trough a4 and ableton… Something not fit with tyme sync between rytm and a4 very good… But i have not payed lot attention in routing this on ableton… I will look later… But now midi are sended to a4 and i can also choose on what channel send Them directly from ableton… Very cool
I have seen this… Before during my search… I will study a bit thoose gear… Honestly i m not a pianist… I can do some chords… But i find very helpfull the way i can arrange manually note and velocity trough ableton it s just a matter of time i have to waste doing it… But music is my life so time is not an issue… Anyway i have to say you thanks again…
And also i know is a things i honestly not like… But with ableton i think you know for sure… Is possibile to extrapolate midi note from audio sample… This for real something is like stolen but i have to say is sometimes very cool…
You can adjust the synchronization from the ableton settings. In the “midi” section there is a small triangle next to each input and output, if you click on it a drop-down menu opens and from there you can adjust the delay compensation in milliseconds. In the second option, under the milliseconds, you prefer “pattern” rather than “song”
Tnx a lot for this tip… I was thinking to do that directly under the main midi channel i use to routing midi… But thia tip seems much precise… I will test this tomorrow… Tnx again✌️
Thanks this i never know before… Is a bit embarassing hahahs… I m using ableton since almost 20 years but i discover this thanks to you … Anyway during my little test… I was curios about this… Normally on the elektron we have 64 bar pattern… But… This is my idea… I not know if is a bullshit… Actually if we leave the Channell on the a4… Without a pattern… But with proper Sound loaded… And we edit a pattern on ableton also longer as 64 bar… And let it play syncronized with the elektron we will play in fact as a fake live Impulse that allow to have longer pattern as 64 bar s… I m just dreaming or is something true?
I would study a bit this… I actually have setted the latency as u suggest… And i have now 4 midi channel on ableton each of them chained to a channel on the a4… The idea is to create on ableton clip for each channel following the master tempo on elektron gear… And play this midi clip from ableton trough the a4… Any suggestion?
The 64 steps are the limit of the Elektron sequencer, on Ableton you can create midi loops, that is, clips, even longer ones, in the past I used a similar system using an mpc live instead of Ableton to create sequences of 128 steps on a Digitone. You just have to be careful about one thing, if after recording a clip in Ableton you decide to activate the Elektron sequencer on that track, for example to add t-locks, p-locks etc., the results are unpredictable, some notes of your loop could skip, and in the worst case, and it happened to me several times, the Elektron goes into crisis, it can go crazy and freeze. For this reason I have chosen not to use external sequencers on the Elektrons anymore and I am happy that with the latest Elektrons they have made sequencers with 128 steps. In general however, in your place I would choose to use Ableton as a master clock, it would certainly be more precise and also gives you the possibility to use the Ableton effects well. It is true that ableton can receive the clock, but if for example you decide to use an ableton delay or a beat repeater, you will see that often these effects sound a little strange, slightly out of time. There are few daw that receive external midi clock, and there are reasons why they choose to do so…
Mate you are very help full… This things you say me… I mean the wild result of p lock i notice already yesterday… But it was just a test so i was thinking to have to settle better the things… Actually i was not searching to let ableton work togheter with the elektron… In order to have a Kind of hybrid liveset i was just searching a way to Connect the keyboard to the a4 trough midi… But then i realize this things about the longer pattern… But what you say make full sense… I not thinked on it… Of course the p Lock on the elektron are working with 64 bar structure… This will make things go wired as i understand… It make sense… Anyway i will study this… Use ableton effects i not know… Actually i decide to " downgrade" from digital to analog… This is also why i m not interessed to have an octactrack… My original idea was just to play with rytm and a4… No other digital gear… And leave the Sound full analog… Ableton as i say i use only to record sample… Edit sample in wav for the rytm and create some track extracted from the liveset… But yes now i m trigged with this things of longer pattern😅
I also received an offer from ableton for Update my old licence from live 8 to 12…i m interessed is a fair price…109€ for the 12… 199 for 12 suite… Honestly i have bougth at the time live 8 suite… Was just a waste of money… Suite sound i never used almost… I look on the 12…The difference is just about the sound library… Some Instruments more( that i not care) but the things is that max 4 live is not included on the 109€ offer… I look quickly… But as i see… Max 4 live now got some plug in related into midi routing editing and so on… Is looks very cool stuff… U know something about?
I can’t tell you anything about this routing plugin, but I’m personally a fan of Ableton, and in my opinion in the Suite version, especially the 12, there’s a lot more than just sounds. For example, for Max there’s a plugin that lets you have racks to control all the Elektron parameters, it can be very handy. But above all the effects…try playing a bit with the Echo modulations, or with the Filter delay…crazy results! In version 12 they also added an incredible saturator, Roar, which can easily replace an Analog heat, try it in multi-band, try its filter or its feedback delay…this effect alone is worth the upgrade to version 12. As far as I’m concerned, with Ableton the turning point is owning a midi controller, there are also scripts around the web to use the Elektrons themselves as controllers for Ableton, make your own racks of effects and you can use Ableton as a super mixer full of effects, without ever touching a keyboard and mouse. I’m waiting for the right moment to buy push too…
Mate you want let me go bakrupt or? Hahahah i was try to convince myself to Save some money… But no way hahahs ok ok… I will take the suite version i understand
I buy in a while next life i will Save money… Maybe… Or maybe not hahah
About Skripts… Now i not know exactly… But i m Mechatroniker… I worked many years as " tuner" for car motor control unit… I was using too skripts… I do by myself… In order to Save time doing same process on same Hardware and Software Ecu… With ableton i not know… But now you open me another world hahaha
I bougth live 12.1… I look on the minimal spec of pc… It must work with my old vaio… but… I love ableton… And i know that anytime you have to menage with New release, Updates Installation or so… Always Happen something …
So i m going now buy an other pc…i have issue with avx2… My processor not Support this… I try hack it in anyway… But no way… Ok i was hoping to save money… No way… But i have at least live 12.1 and an other pc. Hahahah
