Keeping track of it all

Hey everyone,

I may be doing all of this wrong… I have been flooding my A4 with a bunch of song sketches (4 measure patterns). Some are bunched together in a short series that I can Chain together in a song fairly easily.

I have almost filled up the project with these. It is fun to jump around and get different configurations of these sketches.

But it is now so big of a collection of song sketches that I find it harder to remember where everything is.
I’ve also manage to mangle some of the patterns either through forgetting to reset the performance settings or accidentally rewriting a kit.

Do you guys keep a record of all of this somehow? Any tips? I hope there is an easier way than writing up an Excel sheet.

I will keep my projects more streamlined in the future.

Thanks

I’ve made it a habit to create new patterns in every 4th slot (A1, A5, A9, …, you get the idea). For each of these blocks of 4 I use a new kit, clearing and saving this new kit is always the 1st step when I start something new. I name the kit after the 1st pattern slot I use it for. So I usually have enough leeway to flesh out ideas and I don’t accidentally demolish existing kits. I do the same on the Rytm, and on the OT with parts.

I do the same as Hans with the 4 pattern blocks, but I name my kits in accordance to all the patterns available in each block.

I.e “Kit 1: A1-4”, “Kit 8: B9-16”

This way I never confuse kit assignments or get into a wrong kit.
