Karen Gwyer appreciation thread

Karen Gwyer is killing it. Her releases keep getting more and more interesting. I adore the drumwork on the recent singles and eps.

I cannot think of a single artist whose next record I am more excited about.

Saw her play an intimate set at Cafe OTO a couple of years ago with Dalhous. Was amazing

One of my favourite tracks from last year

This is a stunning track

Same, one of my favorites in the series. My oft-used phrase “noodle into the abyss” was snagged from her episode

Yeah. Big fan.
Absolutely rinsed Kiki the Wormhole when it came out.
Last 3 releases have all been awesome too.

She is such a good musician and one of the best performers in the world.

Ive got a lot of her music. She’s brilliant.
I’ve been dropping her name on here for years, glad there is now a thread for Karen Gwyer!

I really liked the sets she was doing playing live key synths, looping and using that Vermona DRM. The later stuff, I dunno, not quite as good for me, but I can see why she went in that direction.
Her albums and EPs are always solid though.

My favourite

It is one of the best ATC by far.

Love that!

Have to weigh in with some love for Karen too. Check out her live set from last year – Octa + RYTM and a few other bits: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ig0cr_2gS_c

You are not joking! I’m sheepish to say that I’ve never heard her stuff before but this is excellent… going to enjoy getting into it all.

New-ish Gwyer track that absolutely rips:

Love KG! ‘The Workers Are On Strike’ is an all-time fave and that ATC was a part of the push to try some more hardware for sure.

Saw her live one time and she had a mic’d amp as part of the kick sound. Very nice set too

She’s great. Super talent and very kind.

I wondered about this, because on some of her recordings some of her drums sound like might be played through an amp.

Could you link to any where you thought that?

I saw the soundcheck where she was trying to get the balance between amped and (I assume) direct kick. Cool to hear

To me the grit in the drums in kick and percussion on a track like “He’s Been Teaching Me to Drive” sound it comes out of a amp (or a drive circuit that is points in that direction at least). That sort of slightly filtered saturation.
