Here’s a remake of the classic 1983 Run DMC song:

It uses (unmodified) Oberheim DMX samples from http://www.electrongate.com/dmxfiles/eproms.html

I used the 1991 “together forever” version for reference.

No external FX, pre- or postprocessing was used. I only removed a tiny bit of bass using my (analog) mixer.

This is my first AR song (using the internal AR sequencer).

Some things I noticed:

  1. Samples on the hihat tracks always have randomized sample starts
(found that out when I used the ‘CH 9’ track for longer samples that play when the beat stops, had
to move them to ‘LT 6’ to fix that)

  2. The clap sample (on the ‘CP 4’ track) has random clicks in it (also due to samplestart randomization?!)

  3. The song editor has an annoying bug that shows you the pattern selection countdown dialog for several seconds
when the pattern has already been selected (and the keys were released)

  4. When you leave the song editor (disable song, press ‘no’ to get back to pattern mode), changing patterns
    still alters the song (bug!)

  5. Sometimes starting song replay starts playing a different pattern (last edited one) first before switching to the active song pattern

  6. This track may not sound like the original, but it sounds far better than my first naive approach using a PC tracker

My AR has firmware 1.02c, btw.
