I just can’t seem to see the advantage of identical MIDI notes on 4 different MIDI channels being forced upon the user - usually strange Elektron architecture decisions have some sort of logic/advantage to them but I’m not seeing it here

That sort of trigger merge functionality could cost you a hundred bucks in eurorack.

Let’s say you want channel 1 for MD, filtering lower notes on channels 2-3-4 would suffice ? (Setting a lower range in Map Editor)

this is pretty workable solution imo, on most MIDI synths I very rarely use the lowest or highest octaves, and you only need slightly more than an octave of notes for all 16 machines. it is not ideal but it is definitely workable - if you are using all 16 MIDI channels you can certainly afford to lose the usage of the lowest/highest octave on a few synths!
