Just got kicked off reverb

Yes! :100:

I admit it was a dumb, chancey risk on my part.
Still, a bunch of other things to scrutinise and be angry about.

at the risk of this method, too, being eliminated once it gets popular:

In “private” conversations with buyers or sellers in which we’re trying to “work something out”, I take a photo of the gear with a little post-it note in the picture with my phone # on it.

Who knows, maybe Reverb is scanning those photo attachments, too.

Reverb absolutely scans for text, I imagine you’ll get ganked doing that soon enough.

I opened another account to sell something and after making 2 normal sales, following their rules, they locked me out because they saw it connected to the original account.

I opened another account where I just buy now.

When I want to sell anything, my bro in law will post stuff on his account. They’ve definitely made tens of thousands from my buying and selling, I still don’t think it was worth banning me considering my rare “buying/selling off reverb” behaviors. Oh well!

Reverb sucks, I broke their rules, reverb sucks.

Just as a reminder, next year he may be tax-liable for your sales depending on how they re-implement reporting requirements.

Edit: To clarify, beginning with sales in 2023.

Thank god PP no longer has a monopoly on accepting online payments. My account was temporarily limited yesterday due to no apparent reason and I’ve been a member for like 20 years. This happened a few years before as I had sent a small payment with “impulse” in the notes as it was for additional shipping costs for an Impulse Command and I belive they thought I was soliciting myself or something.

Reverb sucks for sure. Which sucks, because in theory it’s so cool.

I still wonder how Growing Pains manage to have a character in the 80s named after (expletive deleted).

Unfortunately for Reverb a suspension for almost any reason is permanent.

reverb sucks, havent been suspended there, but I’ve sold a couple things last september and still havent gotten the money on my bank account after contacting customer support 3 times lol.

for other things that ive sold in the meantime, the money has arrived

over the past 2 years, this has happened a lot where payments just get stuck and you have to bug the customer support, often multiple times
on top of their outrageous fees and awful user interface

i try to sell things mostly on the local classifieds, but some more specialized things are sometimes hard to sell, so i still use reverb

Huh! I’ve never had that happen yet, that sounds very obnoxious.

This is using their “Reverb Payments” method to receive payments?

yeah exactly, using the reverb payments

its a bit weird, sometimes the payments just get stuck for ages, eventually they facilitate it always after being prompted 1-3 times, but its been a bit annoying

I’ve pulled all my stuff off of there. It’s not worth the fees. Also not worth buying on there since the fees make everyone overcharge, plus we have to pay tax on top of that. What’s the point really?

you have to pay tax on the sales there?

I’ve had this happen only twice thankfully, but it felt weird. The first time it was because the buyer was a scammer. Reverb eventually cancelled the transaction. The second time, the buyer was legit but I was basically stuck in limbo waiting for them to determine if the sale would go through or not for a few days.

I just fundamentally don’t understand how someone could pay for something in an electronic form and the payment not immediately be disbursed to the seller. I also don’t understand how someone can “buy” something but not pay for it for several days. Either you have the money to buy it, and you pay the money and buy it, or you don’t pay the money and don’t buy it.

Yup! It drives me nuts. The government collecting sales tax on the purchase of a used item in a transaction between two private individuals - which was already taxed at the time of original purchase (unless bought somewhere sales tax doesn’t exist) - is something I think should simply not be allowed.

interesting, are you in the US? here in germany it doesnt seem to charge that sales tax, they often urge me to add my VAT number but since i’m not a business and only selling gear privately on there that doesnt apply to me

yeah I dont get it. In my cases, and its happened really often now - it shows me on reverb that the buyer has paid for the item and the payment transfer to my bank shows as “pending” in my interface, with the note that it should arrive at my bank in 2-3 working days. Then sometimes that just doesnt actually happen, i check back in months later cause I forget about it and see the money still hasnt arrived, and i have to text the customer service, who then with an about 30% hit chance make it happen, often just one item at a time, so i have to write them again and again. Had 3 items just now that i sold between september and october where this happened, and i had to write a total of 4 times to get everything to my bank. I dont think its my bank, I’ve tried two different ones.
i tried using the paypal option (which seems even more expensive?!) and that one just flat out won’t work at all for me

Yeah, it’s a US thing. I don’t know about other countries - sorry, I should have specified.

That’s so bizzarre. I know there are some payment options on Reverb that can be delayed but I don’t know enough detail on that (or about banking in European countries) to even speculate on why this keeps happening to you. It’s a bummer though and I’m sorry it keeps happening.
