to everyone who over the last few months has helped me with the “what to get next” question. I’ve flip-flopped around between a monomachine, a Sub 37, Pro2, Dom 1, and god knows what else.
Finally I decided on…
…Analog RYTM!!!
What eventually made up my mind (after months of pissing about), was listening to the recent competition entries, I was fucking amazed by what it could do, in the right hands.
I always thought I had drums covered with Maschine, Live9/Push and more recently a TR8, and to be honest when Rytm first came out I thought meh!! not another drum machine, i’ll wait for the next box. But having heard those competition tracks, the decision was easy.
Anyway, my new baby arrived today, and so tomorrow the fun begins!! Wish me luck!!
Stream of noob questions incoming!!!

Don’t think of it as a drum machine - think of it as a drum machine + everything else…definitely up there as my favorite Elektron instrument these days.

It’s interesting reading that as coming as someone who owns a Rytm and a Tempest I feel I’m a little guilty of viewing the Rytm as “only” a drum machine (which it does excel at) while I look at the Tempest as definitely something other than a drum machine (some of the bass/pads/leads the thing can do are fantastic).
Anyway, the Rytm is great. I haven’t gone near the sample side of things as synthesis is such a breeze on it - especially with Strom on the go and making tweaks on a whim - but I look forward to it. Will probably make it feel like a brand new instrument when I do!
