Joystick - what's the best way?

One of the standout features for me with the analog keys is the joystick - I won’t bore you with my buying decisions but I got the desktop a4.
I still want to use the joystick exactly how it’s implanted on the keys so I’m searching for alternatives.

I have a Nintendo wii and I know that people have used those with max patches and other software but is there anyway that you guys know of how to do this joystick cheaply and effectively?

Sounds like an ideal arduino/other project. Alternatively another forum regular makes these
It can also be done ‘virtually’ if you have Lemur on iPhone/iPad.
