Gave it a spin the other day and find the correlation between inbuilt sound engine and the Mod FM passable!

Was too dumb to find the final VCA envelope though and randomize always required me to readjust volumes.

BH I’m always low key on the verge of selling it (have it on MW sales section right now…
Sound can be gorgeous - especially also on account of the two VC/LFOs that can do saw waves etc… but its finicky with gain stageing and has a couple of quirks that meh me out sometimes - shiddy redraw of envelopes on the screens, multimode is a joke, velocity hardwired to vca but not available for vcf… typical jomox stuff and a guy who’s to cool to answer emails… BUT… if you hit that sound it’s really unlike anything else in my setup.

The VCF does oberheim style 12bd state variable that can morph betwen lp-bp-hp. and you get 4pole lowpas in parallel. that alone is extremely yummy. the basic fm synth is like on the alpha if i got that right - 4 op with free matrix. the CV ins are no real use to me/was going to tinker a filter cv in but didn’t want to dissect everything…

No gear is perfect and my bigger concern is long term lack of support from Jomox as it is pretty much a one man shop Jurgen who fails to respond to emails.

He has responded to every single one of my emails.
including helping with an Xbase09 issue, which is more than 20 years past its sell-by date.

lucky you he never responded to any of my emails. Maybe if I call him but he is super busy as one man shop. Fortunately no issues with mine and the firmware updates have been smooth on my AB MK2. Great machine massive sounds. I find it to be one of my favorite drum machines next to my Rytm, LXR02 and Hexdrums.

I’d second most of these points. The UI is not the best and stuff like sluggish envelope redraw sometimes results in optical spaghetti. In multimode, only one channel can receive midi CC, and there are no FX per channel, if memory serves. The biggest meh for me is that velocity is hardwired to the VCA but you cannot have a dynamic filter envelope… The sound though, is really unique and if you are patient with programming, the rewards are immense for single sounds. Im keep reading how great it sounds… ie someone on Modwiggler wrote that “It delivers original (???), beautiful sounds if your make an effort.” and i just can’t hear it in these examples nor in the available videos on YT nor other examples on Modwiggler forum. It frustrates me that i can’t hear the originality or that big of a specialness! What am i missing? Maybe i need to hear more examples i don’t know. Maybe i just need to buy it and test it out myself.

Yes, maybe but not a single example is original sounding imo it just sounds like sounds from the 80ies, some early 90ies

not my fihght and no idea what you clock as original, but the interaction between fm part and the filtes is not that common, as is the filter sructure itself. in general, comparing to other fm hybrids, stuff’s glued more together than on the leviasynth, for instace, and the fcv can sund quite acidic but then flip into sth else if driven more… the interface is not super easy, so that’s why i didn t lean fully in with my sounds, but the part of “demos” i make to show sonic interactions rather than selling presets or sth. not many demos around though and tbh jomox has done only some 50 presets… didn’t even use all slots. sometimes the sound hits just right for me but quite often i’m not well able to fit it into a mix, which is also why i’m on the fence

I do agree that it can sound interesting, good and kind of ‘physical’, has a weight to it but just haven’t heard nothing original/unique yet. Im not saying that it has to produce original sounds just that ppl are describing it like that. Maybe im sounding overly harsh but ppl are complaining about how difficult is to program it, to control it with midi, that is has problems with cc messaging, the multimode doesn’t work as it should and so on, and for so many problems imo it should sound like a machine from heaven, don’t you agree?
Anyway thnx for your input! Will continue to look for more examples until I get it in my hands

thanks maffez, for testing out my editor and the feedback, i updated some things you described… Master VCA/ADSR was missing in the UI, now it is part of the envelope section.
