Jake one: behind the beat videos

this dude’s just no-nonsense, making beats for big and small artists with his old gear. i really identify with his approach, just keeping it simple. he’s no great musician but has great feel and a great ear. AND he’s doing all this on an old ASR-10. it’s all muscle memory just flying around this old workstation keyboard.

I hoped this might be a post about Jake One as in one time Red Snapper keyboard player; and one half of Toob

That’s for sure. But Toob too! Richie Thair & Jake One

Jake One (not the one at the top of the thread) played a big part :

Our Aim Is to Satisfy is a 2000 studio album by the band Red Snapper.[3][4] It is listed in the book 1001 Albums You Must Hear Before You Die .[5]

a million years ago, i saw the bass player of red snapper playing live with a drummer along with roni size in boston. what a sick show… must’ve been like 1997 or so.

haha… totally off topic, but it looks like it was si john on bass and clive dreamer on drums back then. possibly the same crew as this video from 1998:

this one’s also good. i love when he talks about playing “struggle keys.” yes, my brother… i am with you.
