Issue : MIDI arpeggiated notes not being sent when MIDI track not selected

Hi there,

I’m experiencing an issue attempting to do the following thing : I’d like to send MIDI notes from Reaper to the Octatrack, and make those notes trigger the arpeggiator of one OT’s MIDI track, while the OT sends the output of that track to its MIDI OUT port, in order to control an external synth (Korg Opsix).

I’m quite relatively succeeding in doing that, here’s the problem : it only works when the MIDI track is selected : whenever I select another MIDI or Audio track, the MIDI notes from Reaper stop activating the arpeggiator. Weirdly that happens only after the OT’s pattern has reach the end of its current cycle though ; then the notes from Reaper are played continuously (i.e. the exact way how I programmed them there), as if the OT would just pass the incoming notes through to the Opsix.

Here’s how I configured the whole thing :

  • Reapers sends notes through the MIDI OUT port of my interface, on MIDI Channel 1. This port is physically connected to the MIDI IN port of the OT.
  • On the OT I use MIDI track 1, configured on MIDI Channel 1. (I turned off all mappings of the “PROJECT > MIDI > CHANNELS” menu.)
OT’s MIDI OUT port is physically connected to Opsix’s MIDI IN port.
  • Opsix is configured to recognise MIDI data on Channel 1.

Is this behaviour normal ? Anyway is there any possibility for doing what I want to do ? (basically I want to use the OT’s arpeggiator, but not its pattern sequencing because what I want to play is a constantly evolving melody that spreads over 3 minutes : I need to play a MIDI file. Pretty annoying not being able to keep the arpeggiated notes up while selecting other OT’s tracks though)

Thanks for having read, and thanks in advance for your hints - I really can’t figure it out alone.
