All bases covered right there!
isn’t it that DN is the deepest elektron instrument?
…with the most versatile results, and possibly the most complex sounds?
not saying that one is better than other, just asking bc it doesn’t make sense to me, but i don’t have A4, so it could make sense that it doesn’t make sense to me
DN is a great machine. my personal experience is that the combo of parameter slides, neibour osc, external osc, fx track, & performance mode take the A4 to another level. liquid beats that live and breath yo.
DN is lovely too tho, no mistake.
plus you can also do FM on the A4 with the tunable LFOs.
And Direct Jump between patterns can give you crazy wtf moments. I find mad switching a nice way to add tension for transitioning.
Granted DN is very capable though.
I hope elektron don’t ditch all these things going forward. they’re some serious magic elektron sauce.
The more i see of the A4 the more i realize the potential with having 2 of them in your set up.
With an OT in the middle? Get thee behind me!
Take a look at analog4 user manual, it will give you a pretty neat idea of what it may be capable of… along with this thread
I have’nt tried yet but If you have the A4 and AR you could use the cv outs from the A4 to the cv ins of the AR for more mayhem. Then take one of the AR’s individual outs to the A4’s external ins as an oscillator and process that through a neighbor track. Lots of potential to get weird!
In combination with the AR I especially love to use the Performance mode of the pads to simultaneously control the macros of the A4.
And not to overlook Velocity as a modulation source with Velocity to Volume turned off.
I’m about to pull the trigger on an mkii.
2017 grey fully functional but with a bit of minor wear - €900.
or
2022 black immaculate - €1200.
im torn.
I prefer grey (and the price) but 5 years more twiddling on them encoders n buttons is a big difference. my head is saying probably go newer.
what would yoU do?
Encoders can be changed. Follow your heart.
You could ask the previous owner if (s)he was a heavy A4 user or did just just occasionally recreational use I like the mk2 first iteration gray a lot.
If you have hires pics look for rust in screws (marker for humid environment).
The silky buttons to sticky glue problem (all mk2 products) can occur in both because there seem to be other parameters much more important than age. My 2017 (or 18?) DT doesn’t have it, my 2021 OT starts to develop it. I got rid of all clear plastic bags and rubber coated cables near them when storing for a while.
I’ve wanted a “MkII form factor” version of the Digitone ever since I got the A4. The Digitone was my first Electron box that got me hooked
I’d wait and get an immaculate 2020 A4 Black for £800 like I did 3 years ago.
quite the find, Rusty. congrats
There was one for £850 a couple of weeks ago.
They were £899 brand new in 2019. Tvs have got cheaper in that time.
