Isn't the Analog Four the most incredible and deep instrument from Elektron so far?

Yes, just the text. I got it working now. Thanks!

Figured it out. Was just looking at the text.

Optimizing my living room studio

Less is more

I just moved half of my studio in the living room and sold the other half because we just had a baby. My current setup is very similar, tiny space with a laptop and two boxes, one of them being the A4. It does have some advantages such as the fact the it helps me focus on just the essentials but I am also thinking of what to do next space wise.

Another method, less authentic technically: Isn't the Analog Four the most incredible and deep instrument from Elektron so far? - #1060 by Jeanne

From age 1, genelec monitors are very suitable since they are well protected for curious fingers pushing tweeters

Is it that mentioned FM of square by square? How do one proceed with that? :]

Thank you for joining in with your input. I really like your track - both as composition and finished song. Now, just to understand, how it was done. :]

You mean AM of saw by square? Mine is a lot simpler but does have a subosc (even if at the wrong octave due to another limitation): Isn't the Analog Four the most incredible and deep instrument from Elektron so far? - #1069 by Jeanne … I love the Hoover sound to death, the closest I’ve been so far was on the Hydrasynth using actually the same method taro is using on the A4 - with the luxury of a third oscillator for the sub …

Yay binaural.

Binaural?

Just the placement of your monitors made them almost look like headphones :grinning:

I’ve just spent 2 days with my new A4 MKII, I really appreciate the large panel with all the direct access, it’s just so easy and quick to navigate between the different pages.
I really like the filters, they sounds so good, very different from the digital from the Digitone (and very similar imo to the analog ones of the Syntakt).
I also prefer the voice allocation on A4, the ability to rotate between track patches is awesome. This synth reminds me a little the Medusa I owned, similar feeling to have a powerful sound design tool.

Yes! All of this FM talk gave me the idea to plug in a volca FM and run it through the filters and FX. I have it set as OSC 2 on a track and then have complex chords playing as an “osc” that can sync the start of a high pitched triangle wave on OSC 1…

Its a different flavour and sounds noice…

Thank you, Jeanne!

Now I know, how to proceed further. I will no doubt try your method, although I am somehow convinced to try the one that came to me in the first one, as being more intuitive for me. But yours can be useful in other scenarios, with other synths, that do not have such modulation options the A4 has. So it will be useful learning experience, for which I am grateful.

Cordially!

the way the A4 can achieve ratcheting notes blew my mind by just using the OSC Sync Option 2>1 and a Sync Amount value between 0-21, respectively OSC 2 acts as a modulator for the timing and pwm can shorten the retrig gate/length (primitive analog behavior) the Oscillator is so slow that it will apply ratcheting to notes.

as I was ever since searching for a shortcut to hold notes (like on the AK, there’s ARP hold tho) it’s easily reachable by putting the amp env. to INF and/or the note length on top (with trigs laid down) really inspiring with the dotted envelopes 🫨 which will restart with every new note.

After an initial love affair with mine while exploring it, I’m really struggling to connect with the A4. I just keep reaching for other instruments when I need a mono.

Would you mind explaining this tip a little more?
What other settings aside from Sync 2>1 and depth 0-21 are required for ratcheting?
Also, what exactly are you doing with dotted envelopes and held notes?
Thanks!

in a musical context you can lay down some trigless trigs with diff. sync values, and the dotted (resetting) envelopes are great for ambient long attack/decay movement :cowboy_hat_face:

it’s in line with my approach to auto generate melody’s and possibly endless textures while utilizing modular CV behavior like shift register sequences on held notes (minimal lfo settings on speed/multiplier)

You’ll hopefully come back to it when it feels fresh again. I’m having the opposite problem and want to use my other monos but the a4 is easier faster and sounds so good.

Everyone here comments about how good it is for drums and I always thought it was fine for that but maybe people were overstating it. Recently I’ve been doing these textural percussive tracks with it (kinda like dfam) and I’m hooked. There’s so many places the a4 can go just takes a little creativity and curiosity. Wish I got this thing on release day so many years ago.

I recently recorded a short percussive a4 jam I might post it here if I upload it.
