Isla S2400

It truly does sound amazing. Everything I make with it just sounds finished, but with the right amount of dirt.

Just waiting for the fx card!

Yeah, the digital filter surpassed my expectations. You can even dial in some sweet spots with the harmonics singing.

The best part of the sound for me is the vocals. They are so real. Like the person is singing next to you. I keep a close watch on the new cards and hope we get some FX soon

Yeah, the digital filter is good. It makes a good point as to why an analog filter doesn’t always necessarily mean much. Example the Arturia devices, at least their non-flagship synths. I don’t think the Minifreak or Minibrute 2 filter is anything all that special. The S2400, Elektron Digis, and Micromonsta 2 all have better sounding filters that are completely digital.

But yeah, S2400 really is a league of its own. Definitely gonna pick up the daughter cards when available. Hopefully with analog filters it gives us the ability to drive them and get analog distortion.

Yeah, the cards will definitely add to the machine. I was initially excited for the analog filter card, but now I am hoping the dsp card is finished sooner rather than later. I think being able to pull up a decent reverb or delay, and possibly some compression and/or eq will really elevate this machine, and lend it to being used more standalone.

I am also still absolutely in love with this thing. It’s brilliant in its simplicity and sound.

I did wish there was something like lazy chopping, but that is about the only thing I can think of right now.

The easiest way is to use multisample mode i find.

Yeah, and that’s the only way right? I haven’t found any other method to set slice points rather than adjusting the ones that are automatically created in multi mode. Or Am I missing something?

The only way. But 8 slices are pretty easy on the transients. But if it did it for you it would save a bit of time

Yeah I do wish slicing was a little simpler. That said you can easily copy from one pad to the next (hold the Copy button, press a pad, then press the next pad, it’ll copy over all the settings from the currently select multimode). I tend to just default the first slice so that it plays the whole sample then copy that across and then just adjust the start point on each sample and never adjust the end point so that each slice can play all the way through if necessary.

That’s been the easiest way for me. Still, even if it isn’t as easy to put slice markers as an MPC or Maschine I still find it quicker than on the Octatrack.

My other minor gripes is how the Repeat feature works. You have to set the quantize rate and you can’t easily switch between quantize rates. And correct me if I’m wrong, the pads can’t each have their own quantize rates in Multi mode. So if you want to go from a 16th note to a 32nd note on hi hats for a trap feel you gotta use up multiple pads. Not a huge deal, just get your hi hat pattern going and resample if you want to consolidate but still, minor gripe.

One tip I discovered last weekend on accident is that there’s an easy way to set up Multi Mode sync for everything if you want.

In the video manual it makes it look like you have to click Shift and A to go into the settings and turn on multimode sync for each of the 5 parameters which means you’d have to do that 160 different times if you had 32 different sounds in your project.

But if you click Shift + Multimode it comes up with a quick menu where you can simply toggle on and off which parameters you want turned on in Multimode sync.

Maybe everyone knows this already but if anyone was doing Shift + A and scrolling to Multimode Sync and turning that on every time hopefully this information gets to you lol

Hopefully there might be automation tracks etc with the sequencer …
but it seems to be a good little device

Not for me. Adding Reverb and Delay to the Amen break hmmmm. I can see the EQ being handy though…

$549

yes it has some nice features, like being a SP style sampler and 8 track looper at the same time

i hope they will add round robin with different single samples to the actual round robin method

Ooh $860 aus

If this card was also usable on its own , like having a power + audio in/ outs option it’s be an option for those without the sp2400 too , a nice standalone audio processor.
299 and it’s be good , 550 becomes a stretch … unfortunately with the small runs of this type of thing that’s the price they need to charge.

Someone mentioned elsewhere… the main device has multi channel usb audio streaming so if anyone has a daw they can get near this sonically ( obviously it adds a laptop etc )

Also - if this is the only device someone has , I doubt buying a plug-in at full price is competitive… a discount price for sp2400 only version might help . If I’m buying a vst it likely means someone already has a daw .

Yeah, I have been excited for this card, but $550 is a bit more than I thought it would be. I was also thinking/hoping it would be around $299. It’s a big investment for something that only works inside of one machine. But I do get that they are a small company, and they have been developing this fx card for quite some time.

On the plus side, this card would potentially give me more fx and configurability than most samplers I have owned. The performance mode he describes also sounds like it will be fun to use.

The key for me will be the quality of the fx, along with variety of fx. I am looking forward to hearing which plugin companies are going to making some plugs for this. I would be a dream to be able to load up something like a Valhalla Vintage Verb, or being able to load some plugins from a company like Goodhertz, like their Vulf Compressor, or Tupe. Also, it would be great to have a high quality tape emulation plugin, along with some lo-fi tape and fx options.
