Is this a correct approach to latency-free recording?

I am recording my setup in Logic Pro X with an aggregate audio device comprised of my motu interface and an AR and AK.

I have my hardware setup slaved to Logic’s clock with a software instrument also sending program change messages to the setup during playback or recording, according to the arrangement.

When I need to overdub (guitar, drums, etc.) I simply monitor the arrangement from my machines rather than listening to playback of the recording.

This all seems to work quite well. but there have been a couple of odd sync issues to work through after tracking 2 hours of material. I’m fairly certain these were either scale setting matching issues or possible bugs in logic/elektron master/slave behaviour. However, I recently became aware of dramatic latency increases that occur when using aggregate audio devices. I want to be able to rule this out as a source of the problem as I gear up for another tracking session.

Am I correct in thinking latency does not influence this configuration/approach?

…for the next session, I also want to latch automation to keys and rytm overbridge instruments. This way I’m hoping I can record performance control and have the ability to fine tune the performance in automation and re-record a final pass with hands off the machines. I haven’t tried before so I’m not sure if it works as I have in mind.
