I’m looking for some kind of external box that will let me send pre defined scales from my Digitakt through to an external MIDI device.
I’m picturing a small box with a midi in and midi out on and a dial that lets me scroll through Minor / Major / Aeolian / Pentatonic and the rest and perhaps the root note too, then any “messy” notes I send from the Digitakt will automatically get scale quantised by the box and the notes pumped out to my external midi device will be pushed up or down to the nearest note in the scale and root I’ve picked.
Is this is something the RK-002 Smart MIDI Cable can do potentially?
Or is there something else that exists that lets me do this?
A workaround would include routing midi through a midi channel in Ableton with a Scale plugin on that channel, which is what I currrently do. I just thought there might be a solution which doesnt involve the computer, or picking up another Elektron box that has scale functionality (Digitone / Syntakt for example)
With the RK002 you don’t have to re-connect to the computer at all. With the DUY script you referenced, you can change scale via Midi CC from any machine connected to it.
You can do this with the Blokas as well, you’d just need to assign the Midi CC to scale and root note parameters on your patch. You could also set up 8 of your favorite/most commonly used scales to the 8 on-board patch slots, and switch them manually with the onboard button.
The only trick to that is you’d need to switch through them sequentially, you couldn’t jump from patch 1 to patch 4 let’s say.
