Is there any way to get past the same MIDI channel not being able to be used for audio/MIDI?

I’m guessing this might probably be a ‘no’ but I just bought a Korg NanoKontrol to control the volume/mutes/cues on the Octatrack without realising that enabling the MIDI on the audio tracks would prevent me sending MIDI to other devices on those channels.

I had them disabled because I’m using most of the MIDI channels for other gear. I can probably drop a few and free up around 6 for the NanoKontrol but I just wanted to check if there’s any trick/workaround where I could send volume to the 8 Octatrack audio channels but still send note messages to more than 8 MIDI tracks.

If channels are shared, audio tracks can receive, and midi tracks can send.

Thanks! That’s not as bad a limitation as I thought (didn’t quite realise that from the manual). I often send direct to channels from my Keystep or DAW to devices on the ‘shared’ MIDI channels but I guess I can use the Octatrack auto channel instead for those and switch the active channel.

If I juggle my tracks around I should only need 2 or 3 that can’t receive MIDI direct and that’s cool if I can play them via auto channel/sequence them from the Octactrack.
