Haha, no. But I used to use its pickup machines with a midi foot controller. No more. Anyway, I just placed the OT in the pic to make clear that we are Elektronauts.
@Unifono Lots of great suggestions above! I’d like to add that I use a JHS Colour Box V2 for DI recording bass and it’s very versatile!
Just came home from a gig and it was so much fun! We played three sets of covers, ranging from The Beatles to Black Sabbath. Fender Jazz and and the Darkglass always-on pedal sound really nice through pretty much anything.
And recently I’ve been practicing / playing with a pick, especially on some more modern rock songs and my other band (stoner-grunge thing). I really like the attack with a pick through some overdrive, but with fingers I think my preference is leaning more towards fuzz. Anyway, bass is always a blast!
The Colour Box looks cool, was thinking I’d maybe try the Crayon at some point as a cheaper alternative.
What’s your budget?
Guess I don’t like to spend more than 400 euro for a pedal. But was looking at the origin bass rig yesterday, and it does sound really promising in demos
I played bass for donkeys years in bands etc but not so much these days. I always wanted to play funk stuff right from picking a bass up when I was at school but the bands I played with were more rock oriented and maybe that was part of the reason I knocked band activity on the head. I just play at home these days and to my shame less and less bass…to the point I picked one of mine up through the week, had a knock for a while and the next day I has stinging fingertips! A sure sign it’s been too long!
I like to play finger style and slap (no pick allowed!) and I’ve collected quite a few guitars down the years. I played a P Bass for years with the band but I was lucky enough to buy a MK1 Wal Custom before the prices went daft. I also had a bit of a thing for late 70’s/early 80’s Japanese basses and I managed to pickup a few again before they got pricey. I got an Aria Pro 2 SB1000, an SB900, an early Yamaha BB1200 and the ubiquitous short scale Wastone Thunder 1A. Amp wise I mainly used whatever I could afford back then but the best sounding rig I had was an ancient Selmer valve PA head into a 4x12” cab. That could really growl and worked well with the P Bass until it got nicked!
I have been gigging on bass (and guitar) for well over 25 years. Although it is not the most expensive bass in my collection, my Fender American Elite Jazz V is used on most gigs, live and studio, these days.
I spy a big muff! Really want to try the bass version, absolutely love the OG guitar pedal!
Ha, well I’ve never tried the guitar version! I do like the bass muff (and a some other EHX pedals too) because of the blend knob. It’s been a standard in my bass rigs for at least ten years. Easy to use from mild to bzzzzz and pretty affordable, so try it out!
Tina Weymouth of Talking Heads & The TomTom club also comes to mind.
I’ve made my living as a bass player for for most of my life. My first electronic record (Matadors) has tons of bass guitar into an OT. Many tunes are just bass, mangled into full ‘songs.’
I’m endorsed by Mesa, so have a few of their amps and cabs as well as some Bergantino stuff. Lots of bass guitars, two uprights
I haven’t tried the Origin myself, but have certainly heard good things.
Is Tien still there? He was my rep for years.
Not sure who that is
My old Mesa rep was named Tim, but he’s long gone.
Just looked him up and he’s the Director of R&D now. Good dude. Seriously would send me the sickest amps anywhere in country wherever I was. I had a crazy nice touring rig thanks to those guys.
When it comes to bass gear I rarely get gas and have had the same instruments and gear for years.
Sean Yseult/White Zombie
What’s the bass in the middle in the first photo? It’s absolutely gorgeous! Love the Cataldo as well. You have some beautiful basses - very jealous!
Figured I’d jump in on this, been playing bass for just shy of 2 decades. I put out a solo bass album in 2018, check that out here: https://spotify.link/Zu6vQpM4KDb

And here are my babies:
Honestly, I feel like synth head is the natural evolution of the bassist, there seems to be a lot of us out there.
