Is there a synth cooler than the digitone

My bad

Me too, I know it well. but it’s not going to wash with the general synth user base tbh

Digitone Keys IS the MORE/EXTRA version of Digitone. I don’t think you even have to be a big keyboard player to appreciate all the controls that have been broken out to the surface on it - it really opens up the Digitone for immediacy.

And you’re their spokesman, right…

I know my synths, been studying/lusting after them since 1977

Yeah, you studied that hydrasynth so hard you missed two firmware updates.

Unlucky.

and you claim the Digitone is almost unusable, a synth that is universally well-regarded and has received stellar reviews everywhere.

It’s ok, he’s gone off to troll another thread.

I like this digitone keys idea… I think it would be cool to have a digitone and a digitone keys. I got into the double-digitone mindset.

I am thinking that norns is the eventual move off point, but that’s far in the future for me. That sort of seems like, did I characterize this right, modular in software.

It was an interesting take that the Elektron sequencer sucked.

Im really happy with the addition of the model:cycles to go with the DN. I was often finding I was using to many voices for FM drum goodness on the DN, now the M:C takes care of (most) of that. Also i am not a huge fan of sound-locking drum sequences on the elektron sequencer, im stoked we CAN do it, but often find it kills the mood for me a little, particularly for rythms. Much nicer on the MC where I can finger drum them in!

I saw “programmatic complexity” above and thought the Polyend Tracker or Op-Z could help in this department.

I own all sorts of synths. Analog, virtual analog, hybrid workstations, WT, FM, even classic and unique digital synths like the D-50 or my JV-880 rack module.

Once I picked up the Digitone, it rapidly became my central go-to sound generator in my live setup. I have a Digitakt for more focused sample-based drums/percussion, a MicroMonsta 2 on the side for poly analog stuff, and a Circuit Mono for raw analog and sequenced analog percussion.

But the Digitone has this versatile modern take on a hybrid FM synth that I keep returning to for all sorts of sounds across the spectrum. Plus that Elektron sequencer.

Even after a couple of years, the gear in my live setup still orbits around the Digitone as kind of the central sun.

So, for me, the answer is kind of “no”. If it were lost or stolen, I would immediately replace it with the same, I wouldn’t even think twice about an alternative. It’s the one unique piece that’s irreplaceable, and Elektron doesn’t make anything even close. If my Digitakt were stolen, I might consider an “upgrade” to the ARMKII. If my Circuit Mono and MicroMonsta were gone, I might look at an A4MKII. There is no upgrade or side grade for the Digitone, AFAIC.

Is there a synth cooler than the digitone?
Even if there is, does it matter?

And how do you even judge that anyway?

Ive got a few synths, (including digitone) they are all cool. Couldnt possibly pick a favourite.

Well said. The DN is just irreplaceable. Obviously YMMV :upside_down_face:

the Nord lead A1 has a bit of cool and warmth

Okay boomer

(Feels good being able to use that phrase appropriately once again!)

Well, obviously, whichever synth looks best in sunglasses.
