I have read the APPENDIX C: MIDI in the user manual.
Out of curiosity I wanted to ask you is that really all implemented for Rytm.
Sometimes companies send their SysEx specifications on demand which gives you wider control over the device.
Or time to time they send more detailed specifications.
Did anybody tried and obtained a document like this ?
Yes, that’s all. Elektron uses sysex only for data transfers like sending sounds and project data (or OS updates), but they haven’t implemented a control API using sysex messages.

One short question, do these transfers can be exploited as control functions ?
For example would the playback stop while doing bulky transfers such as transferring pattern sets or kits ?
My app Collider makes extensive use of Kit and Pattern sysex. I don’t experience any freezes or slowdowns when sending Kits or Patterns, but the sysex messages are large. Kits take 1-2 seconds to transfer / process and Patterns up to 6 seconds.
Ok no close to real time control then.
Maybe some ergonomics could be improved by SysEx transfers but I am sure you people had come with great ideas for that over the years.

I think one very good thing about old gear was their exhaustive SysEx implementations and their attention to publish and document them.
Even it is not crucial and this is a great machine, when you have that kind of specification you really feel much more connected to the gear. At least this is how I feel.
Yeah, I wish they would implement more granular sysex messages (Trigs, etc)…it’s still useful for generating ideas, but not so much for immediate real-time control.

Aghhhhh if only there were a simple way to reload kits and reload patterns using MIDI/sysex…
It would be so nice to keep the hands free for tweaking and stomp a footpedal to reload kits or patterns
It’s the kind of thing that makes me want to physically open my device and just solder wires to some of the main buttons (function, kit, pattern, yes, no) and send them to a breakout box for using physical controls like pedals or other gestural controllers.
…but I’m not about to void my warranty by opening the machine
