Yes a little transverse play is normal. If its more than a tiny bit then you can open up the OT, and tighten any loose screws on the assembly. (This will void your warranty most likely)
Or raise a ticket with elektron support and get them to fix it.

I could. Doesn’t seem problematic. You can check crossfader’s behavior in test mode. FUNC + POWER ON, TRIG 1, move crossfader.
There is also a calibration process.
Ok that’s good to know, I don’t have another one to compare it to so thanks for that. It functions just fine but just feels a bit cheap in comparison to the rest of the build
It’s an optic crossfader, I think, so it moves freely. I understand why one might associate that with cheaper builts, but it’s really not a weak part on the OT.
There was a contest going on here last year or so: slam the crossfader as hard as you can and make it travel back and forth. Farthest wins.

The part holding the mirror sits in a little trolley that runs across 2 metal bars. There is a magnetic grub screw that can be adjusted to make more or less travel resistance. I took the grub screw out of mine.
So yeah, normal. And definitely not cheap.
Hey man I assume you’re talking about a MKI? There is no adjustment on a MKII crossfader, it’s a self-contained unit - I happen to have one here!
I think the play looks normal to me @Ronan87 - as long as it’s not ‘catching’ when you slide it from the lateral movement 
Seems that way huh. I had no idea they put a different cross fader in the MK2 units. Shame. The MK1 cross fader is outstanding.
I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone say it was a step backwards - they’re functionally identical - I think most of the top-board parts are different from the MKI.

I just got a used mkII off of Reverb and it has the same problem demonstrated in the OP’s video, though maybe a bit worse (the fader catches/sticks a bit with almost any downward force on it).
I’ve had a mkI for years which is still smooth as butter, so this definitely feels “wrong” to me. And is a bit disappointing, as it definitely interferes with my playing.
Just curious if anyone has had any experience ordering a replacement crossfader from Elektron, or otherwise getting this serviced? Or even opening up the case and seeing if there’s anything that can be tightened?
Trying to decide if this is worth the hassle of trying to start a Reverb return or not (the seller unfortunately also mispresented the cosmetic condition, so I’d have some grounds to do a return, but I’d still rather not).
Have you pulled the cap off and tried it? As in, is the faders rubber cap just rubbing and causing issues? I remember having one and I needed to put some tissue paper inside the cap so it wouldn’t sit too low.
Checked that, issues remain with the cap removed

I tried to ignore it after my posts, but while my brand new grey OT was still under warranty I reached out to Elektron for a replacement, and did the swap myself.
My friend’s used Black OT has a crossfader that moves on its own when he shakes the unit. It’s butter smooth, whereas mine stays put. The replacement is night and day.
Thanks. Yea, I’ve been using it a few more days and am now sure it’s defective. It only moves smoothly if I hold it with both fingers to steady it. With one finger it wobbles vertically slightly which I think is what makes it stick. Definitely night and day from the mkI that it’s meant to replace.
