Anyone using the Xenyx X2442 that could help me confirm that my unit was faulty upon delivery?
TL;DR: The internal effect processor seems to crackle. Is this normal behavior or is my mixer faulty upon delivery?
I never had the following issue with the Xenyx X2222, even when sending the effect processor much, much more signal…
A video of the crackle:

First I show my settings between 00:00-0.54.
I have a guitar connected to input 13/14 and a sample player on channel 6. This is to show that there is nothing wrong with the channels, but seems to be the internal effect processor which crackles.
The sound starts at 0.54 and is recorded via the main out to a external recorded. At first I have a very low signal fed to the effects (not even the first led is lighting up on the effect meter). In the end of the video i even feed it a lower signal level, and even going above unity in the last part. The crackle is there regarding what send amount I feed to it. The crackle is most noticeable when playing a few notes in fast succession.
Any crackle on a mixer channel is usually either dirt or a bad connection. Could possibly be your lead or your guitar? Try using a different set of leads and a different input and if that doesn’t work it needs to be returned.

Thanks for the suggestion. I have tried with both unbalanced/balanced and XLR cables and every device that is connected. The crackle is on all channels regardless of cable type and only when i use the internal effects. Is a lead the same as the power cable? I will have to try with another one in that case. Never thought that could cause these artifacts… Yesterday there was even two times when there was short burst (1-2 seconds) of loud crackle noise. Even when the effect send was all the way off. Couldnt locate the cause. But it did not sound good at all and I could not replicate after the second burst.
I have now tried with different power cables, and the problem is still there. Can I assume that it was faulty upon delivery?
At first I couldn’t hear it as I was expecting an obvious harsh crackle, but listening again I heard what your talking about…
With guitars sometimes you can get that just by having a loose cable connection or even just by touching the strings due to electrical and grounding properties of guitars…
If your experiencing it with line level gear than that doesn’t seem right…
I think when doubting if a new unit is functioning correctly and having tried various things and still not sure, having the unit replaced from where you bought it from is reasonable…
Yeah, it wasn’t totally obvious in the first clip. Here is another one where I’m trying different effects. It is specially noticeable on the hall reverb in the first part.
I have tried with all different kinds of instruments and cables (unbalanced/balanced and XLR). The problem is there regardless of cables used and instrument.
