yup! been, ~2.5 years now with just digitakt I think? I’ve actually never tried the others outside of my local shop for many hours…
kind of have been waiting years to pick up some new elektron gear. or whatever it may ever (not) be. have the money but am ok to be patient. perhaps a bit of a daft pursuit all around.
octa- have the money but want a fabled okmk3. the fx and perhaps overall sound quality of the unit isnt my favorite.
syntakt- looking nicer and nicer. might go for it, waiting on new machines they just teased.
analog four- always wanted one. have had an amazing time on one multiple times
digitone- fm synthesis so hit and miss for me. a lovely sounding machine but not the only synth id buy. the multitimbral aspect of it does seem ncie the more i look around
analog heat- ill just use my computer. perhaps eventually. wish it had more ins and outs.
kinda just digging deeper and deeper into the digitakt hole, learning real instruments (hand percussion, bass), music theory + sound processing, and ofc learnin the daw.
The DT is my only Elektron device. From time to time I think about adding an ST. But I’m afraid that managing two projects at the same time undermines my creativity.
I supplement my DT with a MicroMonsta 2. The integration of the two devices is almost seamless. So the MM2 feels more like an extension of the DT than a separate device.
Since I definitely want to work with samples, using the ST alone is not an option at the moment. However, because I’m not satisfied with the DT’s sampling in every respect (I’m still missing beat-controlled sampling and a few simple functions for editing samples), I could imagine replacing the DT with an ST and the MM2 with an M8.
I think I will definitely give this setup a try. Maybe sooner than later
you could try dt + computer. Seemless integration with overbridge, advanced sample editing on computer before reload into dt. Resample with mono FX. Endless synth and emulation to sample via usb.
The main drawback with computer is workflow but the workflow is done on DT, the computer is just a tool. The drawback of DT is screen size and sample editing, this is done on a big colored screen with advanced tools on computer.
In the end, your samples, tracks, arrangement are stored on your DT, so your old PC can crash and reformat you will not loose your hard work.
Yes the DTakt is my only elektron device. Was thinking about getting a digitone at one point but Id rather have something with keys. So I paired it with a hydrasynth.
Also have a BSII for bass (will probably swap it for a desktop or rack unit) and a TX16W for 12bit, stereo sampling, polyphony, crossfade looping and stuff.
The DTakt is enough for me personally, I would love an OT or Rytm but I like my setup to be minimal and (kind of) budget
DT + ST is a very powerful combo. Add your MM and you’ve got a huge amount of ground covered to the point where you don’t need anything else. I slimmed my setup to basically this (Kawai K1m in place of MM) and it’s the perfect balance of depth and immediacy.
It doesn’t feel like you’re managing two projects either, you’ll tend to naturally work in project pairs when using DT + ST together so it just feels much more like one instrument than two.
digitakt seems to be a global standard these days, I use mine as my only Elektron on the table controlling other gear but also as a synth for drums bass leads and of course as a sampler for vocals/spoken word
its a crazy good and deep little box of joy and still decent value second hand
Sampling the MM2 with the DT is frustrating me a bit right now
So I use the MM2 mainly in bitimbral mode as two additional synth voices for the DT. Switching sounds is easy and fast enough for sound locks, p-locking via MIDI controllers too. All this is handled in a single project. This is what I mean with “seamless integration”.
That said DT totally worked super well as “brain”. 8 Midi tracks and assignable ccs go a long way to slave other sound sources. Also: Elektron sequencer
Then there is PB, MW, AT and BC to even further control external gear
[edit: All of which can be chosen as lfo-destinations as well.]
And if you manage to use the song mode to sync programm changes on the other gear you can pretty much pre-programm a whole ep on that thing.
Remember you are able to loop patterns in song mode to prevent it from advancing in the song!
Great for live tweaking while recording…
