I actually didnt dislike the form factor of the MK2, its big but therefore there is also a lot of space, which is nice. Also i would think the screen on the MK2 is vastly superior.

And I like how the encoders turn faster.

What a great thread idea! I’m really glad questions were answered. I’m looking forward to any future questions anyone might have, just for them to all be answered. I don’t want to know what the questions are though… Just if they were answered.

Highly unlikely.

We are talking about the management that killed the MachineDrum.

The MACHINEDRUM.

No, but the Digital Rytm mk4 is coming out next month.

The reason that they were discontinued was precisely because they were not making a lot of sales on these boxes any more. Just because there’s a vocal few on here that want these things doesn’t translate into it being an overall financially viable move, otherwise they wouldn’t have been discontinued in the first place, and just because some grifters are asking megabucks for them on the used market doesn’t necessarily mean that they are actually selling for those prices either. For the record, I would totally jump on a MnM reissue, but im aware that im in a relative minority there, and certainly would not expect to see them doing such a thing. Also, reissuing stuff kind of suggests being out of ideas- surely we should be looking forward and not back…?

I’m convinced if Elektron would sell again the MD/MnM again with the same firmware everybody which buy them will soon sell them complaining about lack of :

  • soundlock
  • preset
  • conditional trig
  • scale per track ( track speed )
  • scale ( note )
  • overbridge

And I probably miss some of the new feature which are now Ā« standard Ā».
Not convinced by it was better before

For me the desire for MnM/MD is not about every specific feature of those boxes. If the new boxes had that kind of 12-bit punch, that much variety and depth in the machines, kits, more complex song mode, more FX, I don’t think there would be much case for MD/MnM reissue.

Frankly, I think the clear answer is to release a comparable new box with all of the recent conveniences and streamlining of functions, satisfying all parties. The Syntakt should be that, but it isn’t yet, at least, due to the limited number of machines and other factors.

And MnM/MD, as well as OT, were made by people who pushed the limits because they believed in it and loved it, Elektron was a smaller company without PE backing. They probably worked many more hours developing those boxes than anyone would today for the compensation they received. They didn’t have many products to coast on back then (SID Station?) so it was all banking on those two silver devices. It’s just a shame MD/MnM werent developed on the same platform they use for the digis/analogs – in absence of a new MD/MnM I wish they were at least recycling those machines the way they are with Analogs/DT/Samples/DN/Cycles/ST

Elektron have been out to lunch, regarding the MK2. What about the bugs? We paid a lot for the MK2. Instead, they update everything else while the flagship gets swept under the carpet. Not a good look at all, Elektron. Last thing I wanna see is a MK3 when they still got THIS mess to clean up. What a shame!

No mk3 for sure

I think no new product will be launched in Q4

Maybe a new firmware but not for the Analog I suspect

Rytm MKIV coming next year. They are skipping the MKIII because it will be a leap year.

I partially agree. owned a rytm MK2 and sold it. This week I was tempted to rebuy one as i did like the synthesis+sample combination and the analog filters/compressors.
But then I remembered:

  • the difficult tuning
  • the mono sample only thing
  • no mixer view, no volume control for external inputs
  • no ctrl all
  • no timestretch

and all of this, for double the price of a digitakt…
and I was cured from GAS

There’s a thing called ā€˜keeping it affordable’. Elektron could go full Waldorf on an uberbox, but it would have to cost 3K or more. Besides development costs, if they sold it for less they would price every other box they have out of the market, not recouping their investments and go broke.

There’s about 16 years between the first MD and first digi box. You can’t develop on a platform that doesn’t exist yet.

The black one is such a treat. I’d prefer for them to polish the operating system + include the option to have the envelopes retrigger (if possible). And sample waveform zooming

Agreed. While it is their most incredible machine to date, it’s also their most buggy one :frowning:

I’ve been seeing this all over this thread and I genuinely wonder how would rytm benefit from this?
I mean, first of all, almost none of the analog machines have similar params by location on menu or by character, what can you possibly control together for the cowbell, hihat, kick and dvco? and how would that affect voices that are sample only?
if we’re talking about control all filters/lfo/amp section, then imo the using perfs as modulators outweighs the control all by a mile, it’s precise, relative to the original value and non destructive… and you can have several sets of them, neat!

on the DN (and maybe other devices like A4) it makes perfect sense as all voices built equally and you can always undo the mod with [FUNC+NO], but on the rytm I genuinely don’t see any value to this…

We can’t really count on anything concrete.
The company has always surprised everyone.
I think an ARMK3 is unlikely.
MK2 is perfect and expensive.
The pool of possible buyers is probably not particularly large.
In my opinion it makes more sense to expand the collection.
Possibly some kind of wavestate/modwave-takt
Or an easily accessible west coast synthesis.
An effect-takt with many inputs and a filter/effect sequencer.
Who knows…
They will surprise us.
The good thing about it:
The ā€œold" devices are still extremely outstanding.
Especially in comparison to the competitors.

What do you think is inadequate about an ARMK2?

Nothing inadequate, i am just considering an AR2 and would hate to see an AR3 soon after.

For me, my question has been answered, so need to ask me again and again ā€œwhat is wrong with the AR2ā€ and all that  I did not say there is something wrong with it.
