IOS app for recording

Here is a link to the original reddit post of the app: https://www.reddit.com/r/teenageengineering/comments/1rv4hss/built_an_ios_4track_tape_recorder_app_for/

Is there an iPasOS version with appropriately designed/scaled UI?

Current testflight version is iPhone-sized only.

Native iPadOS version is in the roadmap after iOS version is released. The iPad version will not be a direct port/scaled version. Think more of an extension for a studio setting rather than a portable pocket version.

Extension as in it only controls the iPhone version?

Or will you be able to use it fully standalone?

I have a iPad but not a iPhone.

Sorry I meant extension as a product, not an extension to the iPhone version.

Yes the iPadOS version will be fully standalone.

I’ve read the recent changelog and it is mentioning the ability to expand up to 12 channels which would mean TX-6 - 12 channel multitrack recording if iam correct. I need to test tho

Hey Johnny,

Yes, the new beta build fixes a bug where USB audio interfaces with more than 8 channels weren’t being fully recognised. You should now see all available input channels on your USB class compliant audio interface. Worth noting though, it’s still 4 tracks max for recording, that hasn’t changed.

yes, I’ve tested it with a TX-6 (12 channel mode) and I discovered that you canā€˜t monitor the 4 tracks simultaneously, correct?

I would appreciate a monitoring option for the internal mic aswell, by now it’s ā€žlisteningā€œ when iam just listening to recordings. šŸŖ

this App is such a nice thing

Thanks for the feedback.

Monitoring all 4 tracks should be possible by record arming all 4 tracks from the mixer section. Let me know if you have issues and I will look into it.

I have worked on an auto mode for input monitoring which now manages input monitoring automatically.

When in playback mode, monitoring is muted from mic
When playback is stopped, monitoring is enabled
When playback with overdub recording, monitoring is enabled.

You can find it in the inputs button menu in the next update.

There is also a input monitoring fully on or off toggle for full manual control.

there it is ^^ the red marker :crystal_ball:

Next build I will be changing this slightly and adding seperate input monitor buttons in the mixer menu to remove confusion with having to record arm for input monitor track selection.

Nice update.

Really like the new midi features and the bar timeline. Can we get longer loops than 16?

I might also want to be able to merge tracks without bouncing the master.

It is so cool that it is groving :grinning:

Hey, thanks for the feedback and I have logged the longer looping request and will get it done for a future upcoming update.

You can use the resample feature. Hold stop and tap record for resample mode > select empty track or track you want to overdub to. Press play and it will start resampling the other tracks into the selected track! If you meant something else just let me know.

I updated the manual with the new features as well if you would like to dig into it. reelaudio.app/manual

Thanks @JohnnyEgo , glad you dig the update! The midi feature and start stop works nicely with the elektron machines now which was something that was missing previously.

@Tug_Reel any chance that this great app will be ported to Android?

That is nice to hear. Looking forward. Would be an instant buy.

Thanks for building the app! I just started a YT channel with dawless jams and been on a hunt for something easy and looking great on video (though idk about fighting screen reflections yet). LOVE THE APP!

here is where I use it:
