Introducing: Digitone Keys

brb, gonna learn to play keys

I’m gonna speculate that the next release is a Digitakt with 16 MPC style pressure sensitive pads to the right.

Watched a few videsos now - most people are right handed (90%?) so I’m not sure how operarting the digitone part would work. If you sit with that part in front to operate with both hands then the keys are over to the right. Seems to be suffering from Dreadbox Medusa syndrome.

So close to being a Digitar. Just needs a strap.

Comfort when using the wheels I would say.

The factory Sounds for both Digitone and Digitone Keys will be available as free downloads

Hence the knobs above the keys.
Making use of the user layer gives you at least 16 parameters.
I also look at it from a programming the sequencer perspective, right handed people will want to use their right hand on the keys.

You also get duet SFX-6 style jamming.

It isn’t for everyone. In fact, it is kinda refreshing to see Elektron respond to their latest mass market product (M:S) with something a bit more niche.

and individual outs. The Digistrike
That would be dope

Ha ha. That looks horrible.

while they are at it, please enable the synth engines, too

Holy hell, that thing is ugly. I also kind of want one.

Props to Elektron for making something profoundly weird. I’m glad it doesn’t need Overbridge for individual outs and I wish there was a bigger Digitakt to match. Maybe one with MPC-esque pads? I can dream.

Yes, finally a synth I can play on the beach, petanque, friends, pastis !

It has a battery, apparently…

Wow why is it so cheap. Think they undervalued this workstation.

To those that are wondering: Why Digitone Keys?

The main answer lies in the extra expression you get with the velocity, aftertouch, modwheel, and other knobs. If you’ve never ventured into the modulation setup of the Digitone, go there right now!

I liken it to Nord Lead’s (G2, etc) “morph” feature–you can turn that dumb electric piano into a fucking Autechre digital shit-storm, at the swipe of the mod-wheel! When they release the extra soundpacks, I think you’re going to be surprised at the craziness that happens with extra modulation.

Every major function has been expanded to the front-panel, which is a godsend. You don’t have to let go of the keys to get to the arp settings, anymore.

Separate outputs!! Although OB is a technological achievement, sometimes you just want to record like the good ol’ days.

Time to clear off some space!

They all go from the factory to the beach - it’s how they get them to sound so gritty
(I do like the Digitone engine, must be said)

Damn form factor… this is getting worse and worse.

Grains of sand. Grains. Granular synth is next.

No joystick :disappointed_relieved:

elektron should have released the DT and DN with ROLI Block style connectors {and a locking mechanism] on the sides and developed a keyboard module to plug them into (or even have a DT and DN side by side without any need for midi and audio cables)

I’d rather have a joystick in place of the wheels too, but that and the omission of the leds above the keys are the only gripes I have. I love the form factor. Reminds me of my old favourite Roland SH-2000 (The Tuba preset is a killer bass sound!) and other 70’s classics like the Micro Preset etc.

Beautifully cutting edge and somehow nostalgic at the same time.
