Yeah I hope and look forward to zooming being in the main src section.
Were you coming from DT1 or did you jump straight into DT2?
I had a DTI, an Octatrack and then the DTII in amongst other things over time.
Hell yeah, Iâm using BRR on snares and claps all the time to crunch them since OG days! SRR easily gives hats a metallic flavor and is always good with an almost inaudible LFO amount for everything. Iâve mentioned SRR especially because it works on everything, while BRR dos nothing on some material until youâre almost at max and itâs just becoming noise.
Now tell us about that LFO transition trick!
Itâs not sorcery but efficient. On any Sound (results may vary), you put a Ramp LFO, Speed and Multiplier depends on the numbers of Bars you want it, One Shot and + Depth to taste (but genarally high). It gives another layer of complexity and keeps the listener interested.
i bought the dt2 at launch but sold it a few months later due to some of the bugs that i couldnât reconcile. i purchased it again after the recent firmware update that âfixedâ said bugs (more on this in a moment)
my current setup is a dt2, minilogue xd, and a laptop. if my music is any good, itâs because of the dt2 â so regardless of whatever issues i have with it, its presence is indispensable
the issues i have with it:
-
bugs â contrary to the firmwareâs release notes, grid mode is not fixed. there are still pops and clicks, even with loops that are perfectly aligned with the patternâs bpm. grid mode is important for many reasons â one of them is that it enables a loop to be muted mid-pattern when the trigs are placed sequentially. my current solution to this is to add a track that plays noise so that it disguises the clicks, but it doesnât change the fact that a simple crossfade function would normally be considered boilerplate for a sampler that costs over a thousand dollars
-
builld quality â the new boxes made in poland are quite literally âbuilt different.â the encoders have a varying, but generally looser resistance. the action of the trig keys feels much less solid. the new screensâ pixels will fade in busier parts of the display â this is a minor gripe, but itâs an obvious cost-cut and doesnât feel like something that, again, now costs over a thousand dollars
-
in relation to digitone 2 â this might not be fair, but the upgrade from digitone 1 to 2 is much more vast than the one from digitakt 1 to 2. the dn2 has grown into a veritable beast while dt2 is kind of like the famous 1.5 update with stereo samples, more memory, and more tracks. most of its other functional perks (updated trig conditions etc) are due to it being on the new platform (which it shares with the dn2 and most likely whatever emerges in the future)
again, for me, itâs invaluable bc i canât function without the elektron workflow anymore and the dt1 is a little too underpowered to compensate for my lack of musical ability. i love it and use it almost every time i make music
it still needs work though and iâm not sure if itâs objectively worth what theyâre asking for it price-wise
I have the same encoder issue. I almost sent mine back but decided to live with it. A slight disappointment bc now I have to wonder about their longevity.
A little bit, but I can not stress enough that the recent DTII update expanded the sonic palette manifolds by incorporating DNIIâs filter routing into it.
Iâm curious about your experience, do you have your DT there next to your II? I have mine side by side and they feel essentially identical, the buttons all feel the same, the encoders feel exactly the same, and the screens look the same aside from the color. If I was blindfolded and you put my hands on each of them at the same time, there is no way I could tell which hand is touching which.
What Iâm getting at is that unless you have a defective DTII, your memory of the original might be faulty and I think your conclusion that the new screen is âan obvious cost-cutâ is off-base. I only mean that in a friendly way, and you very well might have a DTII with some faults. Can you post a photo of the screen issue youâre referring to showing the pixel fading? The original DT also did something like that, but I remember it being much more prominent at launch. I think they may have altered that behavior in a firmware update along the way.
the original dt is no longer around, but i sometimes simultaneously use the syntakt and dt2 â and the syntakt has a noticeably better build quality
iâve cumulatively used two dt2s and two dn2s and theyâve all had a degree of weaker build quality than my syntakt (or any other of my digis from the previous generation)
oddly enough, when my dn2 returned from repair, the trig buttons had a much more solid action to them as if the unit itself had been physically calibrated (thanks elektron!)
the pixel fade is normal and due to the hardware elektron is using
it was inititially mistaken by users to be a defect with the new boxes until it was confirmed that itâs just the way that they are
sure, next time iâm in front of the dt2, i will!
Interesting to hear. Out of curiosity when I was writing my post I lined up my Syntakt, Digitakt, and Digitakt II, then used the buttons and encoders on all three with my eyes closed for a few minutes, trying to feel any difference at all. They all felt completely identical. I would guess that the parts used for the buttons and the encoders are the same as well, would be interesting if someone could confirm. I very much doubt that the Syntakt is using different encoders and switches vs the new machines, wouldnât make much sense from a business perspective. But, maybe they are, something to do with the new platform.
DOUBLE DTII! My eyes went wide.
the digitakt 2 is the alpha and omega
Hereâs my Digi-family portrait! Jammed on the DTII all day yesterday and then gathered them all up for a pic.
I have a DT 1 from the first launch batch and the encoders have a significant click when used as a button and to me feel a little nicer. The trigger buttons feel like they have a more wobbly play to them in the DT 2 maybe 5% maybe they did this to deal with the buttons that people were having stick pressed in, in the past, itâs all very minor imo but slightly worse is still slightly worse. But yeah Iâm guessing all this got rolled into the DT1 at some point also.
A post was merged into an existing topic: Travelling with the Digitakt
I can vouch for the encoders on the DTII feeling loose compared to the OG DT. And on the DTII some are looser than others, so that inconsistency draws attention to their quality.
Did you compare them with them both machines in front of you side by side?
