Introducing Digitakt II

The Preset Pool is the equivalent of the Sound Pool - it’s extended further by the playable preset keys mode and obviously turning the Preset Pool to lock a preset on a step

None of this sits well with the possibility of MIDI presets, this is why they can’t be saved in a pool, because they don’t fit with this use case of Presets and their playing and recording

If you feel it’s essential, then submit a feature request explaining what you see as missing and how it can integrate without creating potential conflicts in use

Would be interesting imho!
Switch channels and CC settings with Preset trig mode, record, Probability, different midi lfos…:loopy:
So yes, feature request.

Yeah I understand what the pool is and how it works, but that doesn’t really explain why it wouldn’t sit well with MIDI tracks.

Since they made it possible to save MIDI track presets and switch between them (and between MIDI and non-MIDI presets) via the preset lookup, why exactly would it be problematic to be able to place them in the pool and have the same functionality that the pool comes with?

I’m sure there’s some kind of thing about the internal architecture that made it low-priority to implement (or maybe not possible) but it seems like a pretty natural expectation to want to switch between MIDI presets just as fluidly as between presets of audio machines.

Anyway, rest assured I’m not outraged or anything but just curious/perplexed. I’ll indeed submit a feature request and hope for the best.

Any idea if that would power Digitakt and Digitone at the same time?

How many hours are you getting?

Just arrived. Haven’t had a chance to put it through it’s paces.

Okidoki

Maybe a feature request unless…

Is it possible to load my own personal samples straight to the preset pool? I want to take a bank of bass one shots and load them to the pool in one go. That way I can play them with the Preset Pool Trig Mode

Thanks!

After spending a few weeks with it, I’m really enjoying it. Definitely glad I made the jump from the OG.

Especially loving the different trig modes, the 16 levels of retrigs is a lot of fun, likewise loving the separated conditions.

Overall liking the new workflow, but am getting tripped up when I work on the DTII and ST in the same session, hopefully my brain will eventually be able to switch between the two without pulling me out of a creative flow.

The new timestretch machine is cool as an effect, but I do wish for a cleaner timestrech machine that doesn’t sound as jittery.
Edit: Perhaps just an additional setting for the timestrech machine similar to Ableton Live Warp modes (beats, tones, complex, etc.) would make sense.

I’m looking forward to the DTII supported version of OB so I can process tracks separately.

Don’t think you can load samples straight to preset pool, but I think I found the second quickest way, described in the manual 9.3.7.

Take a blank pattern, load the samples you want into that, then save the kit, then in Kit > Manage > LEFT ( the sorting menu), there’s an option Load Kit to Preset Pool. It’s at least faster than making a preset out of each sound individually.

Really loving the way this thing sounds, but I too am still adjusting, figuring out my system for keeping samples, presets, and tracks in some kind of order…

Running DN+DT2 in a peli 1495 with a birdcord+power splitter cable, disaster area right angle MIDI cable, and right angle TRS cables, plus ravpower 97Wh PD bank

Desires:

  • Any way to preview samples on the plus drive? It seems fn+yes does not work. OK if it has to buffer for a second to implement this, very annoying not to be able to do it at all

  • Polyphony (e.g. via locking multiple voices together would be fine)

  • Ability to set a pattern to always load (and save?) its kit directly from/to the +Drive, so that it behaves more like AR/A4 kits. Perform kit doesn’t do what I want because patterns won’t pick up the new kit after I exit perf mode or power cycle

Problems:

  • Audio input volume is too low (using DN with output cranked to max), need to lower DT2 tracks to compensate. If we could get a +12dB software boost on the input, that would be great

  • Sometimes I get clicking noises on the right input. Have not been able to replicate reliably.

did you update the firmware to 1.01A?

No, I did not know about it, thanks. Will give that a shot now

OMG - the rabbit hole just got deeper. Thank you!

This, 1000%

Same motivation here. I hope we eventually get a trig mode for sample pool … or for sample bank might be better.

Either would make this technique (thank you, @mpiecora) so much more flexible, if you could start with samples rather than presets.

EDIT: Now in feature requests (but not formally requested).

Now the Digitakt II is in more people hands, could anyone test whether the Perform Kit mode can be used with song mode to record automation across different patterns without the parameters jumping to their saved positions?

On DT1 and Syntakt you can’t record parameter changes as a song/chain plays through as the params reset on each pattern change. I’m wondering if the DTII Perform Kits mode will allow you to do this. Would be a game changer for song creation.

The Digitakt II is still out of stock/on preorder in most shops online…I had the chance to grab one, but I never have seen a new Elektron product still hard to find a month after. Did that happen before ? Is the demand that high ? Not enough stock for release ? Logistic challenges ?

Maybe they want to ship the next units with the new firmware?
