I’m not sure if this has been discussed already, but I was watching @cuckoomusic Digitakt 2 mega-tutorial and at the end he says something I found interesting:
“And what’s under the hood is also very exciting to talk about. I haven’t spoken about that to anyone, but under the hood, if you were to open this up and you know your stuff in electronics, you’d see that parts of this are indeed still based on hardware from the first Digitakt. But in fact, we’re seeing the first ever product from Elektron where they’re kind of soft launching their new technical platform, and that is very exciting for me. The reason they can increase so much with all the functionality and everything is the new platform. It’s kind of a mother brain on top of the old platform in this case, so taking this old platform to whole new grounds. In the future, we’ll see the true nature of the new platform where new machines will come out based entirely on the whole new platform. The new platform is more, from what I’ve understood, easier to program, easier to update. It’s more of a general-purpose processing where the old platform was more super low-level, hardcore programming required, which made it super tedious to upgrade and also reaching the limit to what each platform could do in the past. Whereas now, it’s not limitless, but the limit is way higher. The CPU load can be much higher. We can expect, I’d say without over promising anything, we can expect many interesting updates to come and also in the future we can expect new machines being launched entirely based on the new platform. Congratulations to Elektron for soft launching, like in secret. I’m going to make it public, but in secret at soft launching the new platform. I’m so stoked to see what’s to come.”
Anyways - this just makes me excited to see where this can take the Digitakt 2 and the future machines that will also be based on this “new platform”.
