Interesting why pre-listening a sample wasn't working whole time

Hi guys, on my digitakt, when i sample, the prelistening function 90 % of the time is not working. both bottons func and yes work but its just the damned combination not starting prelistening. thats not good because related to the small harddisk of the digitakt i need to cut samples as small as possible. hope for advice. thx and cheers tiberio

Hi,

This happens if you have a MIDI track selected while trying to preview samples.
It should not happen if you have for example ‘BD’ (1) as the current track. (ie editing/viewing)

Yup, just like the Rytm, when previewing a sample you need to have a track selected to “hear it through”. Personally, I like this a lot, because you can preview a sample with fx, filter, etc applied.

It doesn’t preview the recorded sample with effects or filter, though…
It just previews it untouched, or it doesn’t preview it at all with a midi track selected. There’s no reason for the latter behaviour.

Ah yes, you’re right. When previewing an already recorded sample from the + drive or ram it does I think?

Only when it’s already been added to your project. If you’re in the browser (ram or +drive, no matter) it’ll come through unaffected by any settings or effects.
I can’t speak to how it works on the Rytm, this is just on the Digitakt!

Also if you just sampled something, and you have the pattern playing, I’ve come across not being able to hear the sample preview in the sample/edit window when I am on a track with a sample playing in the pattern…or it might be vice versa cant remember right now.

There is. You are using a voice when previewing. When you don’t have an audio track selected, digitakt doesn’t know which voice to use.

Selecting one at random could also lead to unwanted behavior. So I kind of understand why they’ve programmed it like this.

it can be very interesting replacing a sample into the previous sample params… i love seeing what will happen :slight_smile:

Even more interesting, hold TRK and change sample slot (control-all)!
