Intellijel Jellymix (Desktop mixer)

By the way, I will need all of you to stop posting in this thread, please, because every time it surfaces on Latest, James Taylor starts singing “It’s like Jellymix, baby,” in my head. And I hate James Taylor.

The concept behind this is that it’s supposed to be a desktop performance mixer for when you want to bring out a few synths and drum machines so seems a bit unlikely to rackmount it. But let’s see

I sense I am going to just not look that up…

It’s in the post, you replied to

Yeah but I was hoping to narrow that window down a bit if possible

I hope it has ALPS pots for the volume, then we can ride it like a DJ rotary mixer // just saying  @intellijel :heart:

Those pots are $20 apiece. That’s part of why those mixers cost what they do.

I wonder how much gain is on tap? Incoming Eurorack will obviously be fine but I’m curious about whether it can boost stuff enough to go the other way. I’m not expecting like +26db or something but sometimes line stuff with a hot enough output just needs a little extra push.

if you buy a single one.

I was actually thinking it would be an awesome way to expand the channel count of the Big Six if it sounds good and has good Headroom. The Bigsix has an input to Sum to Main in case you want use 2 Big Six! So this could be awesome mixer to plug into that.

Damn I didn’t think it would fit into my setup until now :hear_no_evil:

Come ooon, I love his Kermit-like voice!
It’s totally possible to love electronic, experimental music and cheesy 70s ballads

Also: I can’t wait for the Jellymix release

I’m still interested to know this. I’d love to skip the vintage prices for a character-ful mixer.

5 stereo channels, what would you want to pan a stereo instrument?

I do it all the time, it’s not an unreasonable thing to want!

Things with stereo outputs will have imbalances to one degree or another, sometimes quite drastic ones that are still considered ‘within spec’. Being able to correct that on a mixer is pretty important IMO. The lack of it kind of killed the Bebe Cherie for my use case when I tried it, though there the focus on saturation made matters worse. When one channel is clipping noticeably before the other and you have no way to compensate at the source, it’s not ideal.

A stereo pan is not the same as a stereo balancer, though.

No, but they said ‘pan/balance’ originally and the question implied the stereo field in general didn’t need adjustment with stereo channels.

Right. I realize balance control on a stereo track is considered superfluous to, say, a DJ, but for the music I make, it’s useful.

That’s what I find a bit odd with this mixer. Who mixes 5 stereo channel and does not have a single mono channel ‘in the mix’? It even has a HiZ input, so that is explicitly for a mono input like a guitar.
If it’s all about stereo, it’s a bit strange that there is no control over the stereo position of a mono signal. A small knob would do the job, it doesn’t even need to be a performance control. But for me it doesn’t really fit the design philosophy of a stereo mixer for real life use, as much as this may sound counterintuitive.
