i wanna take this to work with me along with an otterbox 8. anyone using any cases for it?

You don’t have enough mono in with Jelly Mix - only 5 mono- outbox is 8 mono: if you just need stereo it’s ok

So with jellymix you can’t separate mono from stereo? It’s either 5 mono or 5 stereo?

Yes, that’s correct

Maybe I’m misunderstanding your meaning, but the Outbox channels are fully configurable as stereo pairs or mono outputs.

The Jellymix has 5x stereo or 5x mono or any combo in between. If you patch a channel in mono, the L is normalled to the right. If you want to separate a combo of mono and stereo inputs into two different outputs, divide the routings between the master and either the headphone or an Aux send.

Yes but in total you have 5 channels of either mono or stereo or a combination of the 2, 2 stereo +1 mono, 3 mono +1 stereo etc. etc.

Outbox gives you 8 mono outputs ( or 4 stereo)- if you wanted for example to route Digtakt 8 tracks to 8 individual outputs you do not have enough ins on the Jelly mix

Did I read somewhere that’s only on the digis? I have it here and can try out later, but I would like this to be on ARmk2 and syntakt as well, I think it’s handy to be able to assemble stereo busses from multiple channels for external processing. It would be really great to have additional sends from the channels on to stereo outbox pairs too.

Edit: “On Digitakt II and Digitone I/II, you can configure audio outputs in-device as either individual mono outputs or as combined stereo pairs.”

Yes, you can create a bus/submix on the Analogs same way as you can on the Digis, and group the tracks however you wish… route multiple tracks to a single Outbox 8 output pair and you’ve got your stereo bus, same principle as the Digi line.

The thing that’s probably causing the confusion is the Outbox 8 Mixer Page, that’s Digi only, the Analogs don’t have it on the device display. So you can absolutely bus tracks together on the AR/A4, you just can’t tweak the output levels of that bus from the synth itself, you’d do that through the Web App or the track volumes instead.

This is what I got from the manual at least so not tested yet by me. I need to get a Outbox 8 soon to try it

Will give it a go this weekend, I do hope the channel panning is respected in that case. Elektron are usually really good with routing options compared to some other people’s boxes. (I tried this now, see Intellijel Jellymix (Desktop mixer) - #922 by BlackDoors)

Just to bring us back to topic, Jellymix is clearly a terrific adjunct to these kind of setups with a couple of boxes, maybe some euro and fx.

I seem to end up needing a fair amount of stereo sub mixers in euro, and have a few in various sizes (intellijel mixup is very nice for this if you don’t need aux or panning). I have considered swapping my expanded intellijel dubmix for jellymix or simply getting the jellymix just for flexible submixing duties.

what you need is 2 jellymixes😄

Hahah GAS and space aside, I could easily use three! Drum bus sub-mixer, instrument sub mix, both with fx loops, then the third is for summing those two and a couple of other boxes. I may still “need” a euro sub mixer or two that have panning though!

Just tried on:

Syntakt , no stereo output busses to outbox 8, except you can send FX L / FX R, IN L/R, and Send FX L/R to one or more mono pairs.

ARMk2, no stereo output busses to outbox 8, but you can send IN L and IN R to a mono pair. Given we already have individual outs on ARmk2, the utility of outbox 8 for this box is more about adding CV out I think - and of course you can send multiple mono tracks to one output here too which could be handy for layering.

Digitone II: stereo output busses can be set up in outbox 8, tracks, IN L/R and Send FX DL, RV and CH can be routed.

A4Mk2: stereo busses can be set up and tracks, FX (mono?) and IN L/R can be routed to them.

Worth saying that tracks can be routed to multiple outputs simultaneously in the outbox routing options which adds to the flexibility

Probably best to put this in the Outbox 8 thread not the Jellymix thread. No one will think to look here for this info.

Yes I think I was in that thread when I replied here for some reason. If mod can move my reply to the correct thread that would be amazing

My point is that this statement is misleading:

So with jellymix you can’t separate mono from stereo? It’s either 5 mono or 5 stereo?

You confirmed this, but it isn’t really either/or. You can mix and match the Jellymix channels for any combo of mono and stereo.

You can also mix 7 mono channels from the Outbox with the Jellymix if you use the 5 main channels plus the Ext A and Ext B inputs. Although, that way, you give up the option to use the Ext inputs as returns for the channel sends, of course.

I am thinking of investing into one of these mixers, now that Outbox8 is available. How is the headroom? What about the sound quality otherwise?

thanks

I have amended my explanation - I thought it was clear - yes you can mix and match - but you have 5 ins in total excluding ext A and B which are supposed to be dedicated to FX send.

In my configuration I have OTO BIM to EXT A in pre and OTO BAM to Ext B in post.

yes - this is correct - you can mix and match but you still have 5 ins ( 2 stereo +1 mono, 1 stereo + 3 mono etc) of course 5 ins if you do not plan to use the 2 ext ins A and B that are usually dedicated for fx send, otherwise you have 7 ins available but loose FX send possibilities.

this is also correct
