Ink Jet - Grandma Tapes (Octatrack)

Ok, so I already posted this on EU, but just wanted to make sure it had a home here. Here is the Octatrack-only EP “Grandma Tapes”:

Lots of info on the record at that link. I also made a video for the first track:

One little thing I didn’t mention on the other board: each of the track titles is an anagram for the full name of the composer I sampled on that track. Special prize (cassette tape w/ the EP + a bunch of tracks that didn’t make the cut) to whoever can figure out the full list first…

No 4 remains a mistery to me. I’ve got the other five though.

Curious…

Nice work. I really enjoyed the video. Nothing beats old footage of people dancing.

@emine: nicely done. that 4th one is more modern, not as much of a traditional classical composer. i’m sending you a message with who it is

@boboter: yeah, that old footage is cool, right? the Russian stuff (black and white) was particularly surprising to me. check out the source video for that part: http://archive.org/details/russian_dancers
the drums/dancers in the first minute groove pretty hard

Nice work on the mastering

Amazing work!
You’ve got another fan!

@AOT: mastering was done by Tarekith, who frequents the Elektron Users forum and I’m sure will make his way over here. http://innerportalstudio.com/

@Kraftf: Thanks!

well the whole production blew me away. I love when music becomes more art. concept was fresh as hell. congratulations!

Took the “Grandma Tapes” tracks and played them live a couple times recently. It’s a weird process taking something that was made as a rather elaborate studio track and playing it live.I mute tracks, loop different patterns, and add some parameter automation via scenes and the crossfader, but it still feels like I’m trying to find things to do onstage rather than being an essential part of what’s happening. More like DJing than playing in a band, for sure.

For the next batch of tunes I want whatever I’m doing live on the Octatrack to be more of an integral part of the music from the start…

Caught this at EU, and again, fascinating theme and great execution, really enjoyed these pieces.

Still loving these!

I asked about remixing some of these at the Elektron Users forum, when I get an Octatrack (hopefully in December, when I get my tax refund money). I’d still love to do it!

OT only is pretty impressive ! Great work!

Barfunkel, you’re welcome to remix these, just send me an email when you get the Octatrack and I’ll send the files over!

Just made a video for the track “Hero-Sniffing Camera” off Grandma Tapes

Shot on camera phones in an aquarium in Alaska

great work!

Excellent!! I dig it a lot

Very impressive, definitely best produced sound I’ve heard from an all-Octatrack work.

Also very organic, nice flow of samples into each other, they don’t sound like samples, rather music (which my preferred type of sampling).

Would love to hear more of your projects

Love this. Love the concept behind it too. Very well done.

Wow, I really like this “mix” tape. Amazing.
