Infini keyboard from Kodamo

In a comment SynthAnatomy said it was the result of a “glitch in the render” on FB. They have now substituted a corrected image.

I want to see articles on the Infini in some other places, like Synthtopia and in particular Sonic State.

13TET with B half-sharp.

If this ends up being a Rick Astley video I will be both disappointed and impressed.

:joy:

Well, definitely real then?

Edit: So… hard to go from just the auto-translated subtitles (I’m sure the French speakers here will enlighten us) but- 37 and 61 key versions, weighted Fatar keyboard (I assume only on the 61), bitmask (“dicks mask” hahaha), virtual analog and FM synthesis, lots of envelope control and modulation options, audio-to-USB, lovely Essence FM touchscreen… very digital sounding but interesting.

Also, the presented hardware is not final at all. It will change a lot with maybe more knobs.

The Infini is real, I just put my hands on it. Fantastic feeling… but it’s a proto (the Unfinished !). The hardware is still in development and will require some work before entering in production. Component shortage and general prices increase is an issue for this kind of product. Anyway, it’s very very promising and the team is great.

This is a relatively early prototype, and it sounds like a lot can still change in the design. It is considerably different from the render at the top of this thread. I’m not sure which is more current.

There will be both a 37 key and a 61 key version, and correcting something i said earlier these are full sized keys.

There is a lot of innovations with the Infini. For instance there is a modulation matrix called the “I-Matrix” described that “It reads your playing style and creates unique modulation settings.” Not sure what that means exactly in practice but it sounds fascinating.

This article in SynthAnatomy has some explanation for the bitmask synthesis, which helps but i’m still picking up on this.

Great to see Kodamo pushing the innovative parts of this new design. This definitely has my attention.

There is an article in GearNews that describes two of the synthesis engines in the Infini. From the article :

Formant and Bitmask

The Formant synthesis starts life as 8 sine wave oscillators and a pair of filters. Through the combining of the sine waves you can pull out tones through ring modulation giving you that distinctly formant sound. This sounds similar to what we found on the old Yamaha FS1r synthesizer. With the Bitmask synthesis it’s all about generating variants from waveforms. You do this by displacement or the breaking up and gluing back together of things – I think.

I get the “I think” part.

So perhaps in various descriptions when the Infini is said to have FM synthesis that means, more specifically, a FS1R style formant synthesis ?

I heard in a video saying it’s gonna cost 2,000 to below 3000.

Below 2k for the small one, 3k for the bigger. Everything depends on components market, which pretty… unpredictable.

Euros.

Also, and this is purely my guess, it’s probably a year out or more before delivery.

They indeed told me Q4 of this year, probably more early 2023.
