Of course this holds only true for sound generated within the Elektron device.

hello everyone. simple question which I’m not sure of.thinking of buying a a4 mk2. do the separate outputs have fx on or off.or can be either as I cant find the answer. thanks for help

Bit surprised by that, but No, there are no FX on any of the individual outputs send FX for the analogs - they all use one FX block on the mains, so it’s simply impossible

they both have identical architecture (just a different Lowpass electrical design) and there’s still just the one FX block - so it’s impossible to separate the sends - afaicr the OT is the only current device with multiple FX blocks, but those are not in a send position, they’re dedicated per audio Track - you can dedicate the 8th track to be a master FX track though

yeah.i have the ot2. some people don’t like it compared to ot1.I love it. just ordered the a4 mk2 from rubadub.10% off with them using code refit on everything. got it for £906

Hi!
I use a Zoom R16 to record my AK, (I don’t want to turn on the computer every time the inspiration flows). I record the 4 tracks to 4 different inputs on the R16. But as I do this the FX is not included in the recording, resulting in a different sound. In order to record the FX I have to connect the AK to the computer via USB, but I’d like to record it straight into the R16.

Any idéas of what I could do?

Thanks for linking my question to this thread.

As I understand it from reading here, there is only one FX block, making it impossible to output FX in the individual outs. But it should be possible to have just the FX coming out from the main outs. I’ll check it out, and come back if I have some more questions!

They way I solved it is to first check which tracks use FX, and then route them to the main stereo out. If I only use two at a time I can pan them all the way left/right, and record the main outs as two separate mono-tracks with FX.

Although this way works, both in OB and for my Zoom R16, it’s not ideal since it takes some extra effort, and that I only can use FX on two tracks at a time.

I didn’t fully understand how it is possible to solve it another way. I simply want to record the four different tracks separately with FX. Anyone care to explain?

Thanks, but that’s the way I used to do it previously, recording layer upon layer, but I was hoping there was a way to record all 4 tracks at the same time with FX, so that I didn’t have to record the song in layers.

If only two tracks use FX, I can do it as I described above (mains L = trk1 (pan L), mains R = trk 2 (pan R)), but I wish there was another better way…

I just want the recording process to be as easy as possible. Just to sit down, push “record” on the R16, play something without thinking too much about the process, and then use each track of that recording with extra effects, etc in my daw.

4 (well, technically 8) into two doesn’t go without some merging

there is one stereo send FX block, it’s impossible to get around this, if you want to play all four tracks, they’ll all be going through the FX (either L/R or L+R and I strongly suspect e.g. the reverb is not isolated left to right, so you’re likely still mixing/bleeding track inputs)

overbridge and USB won’t change this if you want to use the internal FX

you have to work with the configuration as is

maybe as a compromise record dry directs and also just the (merged)FX returns at mains - all in one pass

I typically route two voices to their own outputs and process them with external fx. I like the internal fx and what you can do with parameters locks and performance mode, but using my own fx can be an awful lot of fun too (Meris Polymoon, Strymon Night Sky, Death By Audio Rooms, Catalinbread Montivillian et al) and opens up a lot of sonic possibilities. Having said that, I usually leave the other two voices on the mains and use them with the internal fx, with the option of adding a second voice to a track. I feel I get the most out of it this way.

Hey all,

Can I make the following?

I want TRK1 which has the drums, send thru an external distortion pedal and send it to a mixer. (No A4 fx)

While I want master TRK2-3-4 (with FX) send to the mixer as well.

However, in the main out I do not want the TRK1 to include.

Is this possible?

Ps. Do I see correctly that all A4 Mk2 individual outs are stereo?

Yes, you can “unassign” a track from the main out.

I was intending to ‘correct’ you on the semantics of mixing up TRS with Stereo - but, colour me surprised, you are right (as the manual states) the Track outs are indeed stereo (and not balanced)

every day is a school day - i am utterly convinced that i have answered this wrong in the past (wrt the Mk2) … oops!

it’s not something i’m gonna use very often to be fair, but i am storing this correction in my mind now thanks to your prompting me to reply … the Mk2 is quite a powerhouse

Really happy about it being stereo outs!

I have my 2 AKs taking up 16 mono channels on my Midas console (+ their main L/Rs for fx to the fx returns) and I’m quite frequently using at least 2 tracks from each AK for panned soundlocks- making it essentially a 12 mono line setup.

I’m also using them to control a B2600 Blue Marvin each so I fully agree with you - super powerful, even the mk1 line when using the AK!
