Independent LFO triggering

I am looking for a way to separate lfo triggering from sample triggering.

e.g. I have a number of sample trigs and want to launch the LFO only on one of them, one shot, running across the other sample trigs. any idea?

When you say one shot do you mean the trig or the LFO cycle ?

Have you tried either a standard one shot trig with the VOL turned right down and armed as required or a trigless trig ?

With a trigless trig you can launch the LFO and FX envelopes only.

Maybe it’s possible to use a neighbour track to trig your LFO?

you can do this on the A4 but i can’t see a way to do it on the OT sadly, as you describe it !

Just to clarify here…
So if you place different sample triggers on every uneven step of 16 steps. And you want LFO to run only on those that are from 8 to 16. And yo want a LFO trigger to do that. So if you place a trigless trig on 8 since there is no trigger there and place a Plock there you will turn LFO on until the next trig will hit. So next step. What you can do is hit play and record and open depth on LFO on step 8 and hold it open until step 16 and then turn it down again or just hit rec. Function will give absolute values when turning up the depth. I think… Not sure. Will have to check that. And you will have to be precise on timing.

Other way is to do it with scenes if it fits your needs. And when you want the LFO to run just slide the fader. I usually do that. And it keeps your hands busy and it gives you more flexibility.

i will have a try with this one if it is even possible. Just the LFo trigger. But since polyphony is only 1 voice per track i don’t think this will get anywhere.

I hope it gives you some ideas…

The LFO triggering is latched to sample triggering anyway.

So, if i need an LFO to start i’d put a p-lock for that trig (locking depth while it is normally at zero)

Of course the next trig without p-lock will cut the LFO since the machine has the LFO with zero-depth…

Mostly depends from audio material (long/short triggered sample ) and musical needings.

The scene and manual depth setting approaches are cool but not what I’m looking for.

I have a customized LFO in trig-sync-trig mode (starting with track) modulating ampmod frequency.

for some reason, it sounds fantastic on the first 8/16, but I have no clue which point of the LFO hits where, because I’m running it at a completely irregular speed. Now I just want to retrigger the LFO on 9/16 to repeat it while changing P-locks.

I know I could sample and slice, but I’m lazy

sorry, im surely misunderstanding something but the Trigless Trig does exactly this: it doesn’t trig the sample, only LFO and FX Env
But i get the asking from the opening post.

Also, if i remember correctly, if you hit TRACK + PLAY while the sequencer is running, it will retrig lfo and env

That could be useful, presumably for a free LFO, but nonetheless i can’t replicate this in any mode !

Found it!

the combo is FUNCT + TRACK TRIG (for T1 is step 9 and so on)

but works only in TRIG - HOLD - ONE - HALF modes (not the three SYNC TRIG modes nor FREE)

sorry I didn’t put this exactly right. along with the trigless trig triggering an LFO should come sample trigs that DON’T trigger the LFO. This way it should make sense.

Good thing about OT: As this obviously doesn’t exist, I’ve started to modify the customized LFO such that it sounds the way I want, step by step.

Needless to say that, by doing this, I am discovering new parameter combinations that sound great, too.

By forcing you to think about workarounds, OT opens new possibilities!

yeah, would be handy - this is just one of the many nice touches that made it into the A4, I’d hope along with you that this and a few other enhancements will trickle back (trig mutes would get my vote) eventually
the workaround aspect of both the recent Elektron boxes is a joy as they are both incredibly deep and i’ve found things out that are really quite special that haven’t been documented, even in the manual, just by envisioning what i’d ideally want to do and getting stuck into all the options - really helps you get to know the guts of the products, there is an enormous amount of versatility to tap !

Digitakt does this, but it seems you can p-lock the LFO to a Trig that has a sample on it in the OT. As of yet I can’t find a workaround. There’s a few things the DT does that the OT doesn’t (velocity on retrig, separate samples per pattern without having to “workaround” with parts and banks, separate LFO per trig) combine these 2 machines into an OT MKiii and we have a monster.

Can’t we basically do the same with Octas sample locks and 128 Flex Slots / 128 Static Slots per Project?

Ah, you mean you can’t p-lock any other lfo parameter except rate and depth on OT - yeah, the lfo concept that was introduced with the Analog boxes is more ‘playable’ and ‘plockable’^^
